Taphophilia
I've had an epiphany of sorts. It dawned on me that God does not allow suffering in the world. God does not allow children to die. God does not allow evil into the world or any bad thing to happen. Case closed. Why? An imaginary being is not capable of doing or allowing anything. It is people who allow suffering. It is people who allow children to die. It is people who allow evil into the world. Taph
greasemonkey
Hi Taph! I just hate it when I post something and nobody comments... so HI! your epiphany happened with me years ago. It's pretty awesome when that finally sinks in, huh?! I rank that one right up there with figuring out my dad wasn't the evil tyrant I always thought he was; figuring out he was just human like the rest of us was pretty cool too. It let us become friends.

You are a genius, Taph!

Nonetheless, you really scored points with that one, and it is a major brick in the foundation of my deconversion. Though I am no Atheist, it is patently obvious to me that no divine being has a hand in anything that goes on. Storms and the like are not the work of a god, they are the natural result of the meterological conditions that preceded them. Murders and rapes are not permitted by any god, unless that god is a demon, for what god could permit his or her beloved creations to suffer? No god with any understanding of morality would ever permit evil an ounce of foothold, unless that god is far, far weaker than one would think. Either way, the notion of an all-knowing, all-present, all-good god is utterly absurd and indeed cruel, as well as lacking even the tiniest bit of evidence. Well-done, Taphie - you speak for many of us.

That's just it, Rhem, the reason people get into Xianity is so they can dodge all responsibility. They want to run around and scream the devil made them sin instead of just owning up to it and moving forward in their lives.

I don't recall you ever putting forth the idea that god is a fictional character before. Of course, I'm old and drunk, so I probably wouldn't remember anyway. nirrti
You're getting much wiser since there's more room in your mind for wisdom after dumping the religious garbage out of your brain. If only Al Quada, Hezbolla, Hamas, Pat Robertson, Bush(both of 'em) and all these other religious nuts would take responsibility for their own actions, what a better world this would be.
