For the gas to absorb so much radiation, it would have to be even cooler than scientists thought (based upon the Big Bang model.) Muñoz and Loeb proposed that dark matter might be the culprit for the curious cooling. parenthesis added It could be an amazing discovery or it simply could be that there was no Big Bang in the first place.
