Canceled Dinner Engagement

MOHO

Recommended Posts

<Vent>  :vent:

Last week I accepted a dinner engagement tonight at a local venue with Mrs. MOHO and two of her fundy friends - one whose B-day is the reason for the din din.

At the time I did not know that at this venue the music was fundy related as it never dawned on me that such a large and popular venue would even go there...but they did.

I figured it out just now and emailed Mrs. MOHO that I would not be in attendance and that I would gladly contact our friends and explain EXACTLY why I am not going. I will make no excuses and Will explain, in clear terms, why. I have had a conversation with these folks before regarding  why I do not attend the weekly fundy-fest and neither of them could counter my reasons with any modicum of logic/reason/accountability so they know damn well I would not appreciate the music when they invited us.

There IS going to be serious fallout from wifey-pooh due to the late cancelation but I'm sticking to my guns and if I must accuse her and her friends of trying to re-indoctrinate me in order to fully explain myself then I will.  Maybe I'm being too much of a prick here but, dammit, I am so negatively impacted by fundy related venues and fundy asshats trying to trick me into attending them that I just don't give a damn who I offend. THEY are not concerned they that are offending me.

Sheesh! Just when I thought I was done with being subjected to this shit - as I have posted here previously.

Dammit! Now I have to be stressed all day about the impending altercation and impact to my work performance.

MOHO,

Wow, I get you. I've been avoiding fundie music for a long time now. I just can't take it anymore. On good days, I am laughing at it, on bad days, it gets to my emotions and gives me a guilt trip and such. I guess you couldn't just suggest another venue? Tell them that the music makes you feel bad and that you'd like to meet elsewhere? (I get your anger, but maybe a compromise would help to avoid conflict with the Mrs?)

Hang in there!
Offtheroad

(P.S. IMHO a lot of fundie songs sound like cheap porn. That's what I think on good days.)

@offtheromanroad,

Hah!

Mee too!

I did offer to have our friends over this weekend to celebrate but, I assure you, I will not be going to theirs, or any other fundies house, as now I am gun-shy to being subjected to the propaganda. I may just have to decline any future invitations that involve folks from Mrs. MOHO's church because of crap like this. Sad, huh?

I'd upvote your response but I'm fresh out of upvotes for now. Thanx for reading my rant.

Ah, I see. I totally understand. I hate it when fundies try to talk me back into their belief system.

Maybe just don't go there. In a real world situation, you could just say you don't feel like going out today, but I guess that won't work with Fundie Inc.

Sorry about this. It's so unnecessary and not your fault.

It's a dinner/music/winey thing at a local vineyard.

I called them and they said "It's not NECESSARILY" xttian music tonight.

I checked his website and he does do covers and secular music.

Maybe I overreacted.

I contacted the winery where this is going down and they are not expecting him to do the churchy crap so I reckon I can put my big-boy panties on and go.

If it's all xianity stuff then the venue will be receiving a nasty-gram from yours, truely! :78:

It’s at a vineyard - how bad can it be?  I’d focus on the wine and tune out the background noise...

Yes! Wine it is then!

All the best for the dinner, MOHO. You can play a secret drinking game: Whenever they talk faith/Jesuhs/God, take a sip and think about how you'll have a crazy story to tell us here tmorrow. (It'll be the Mrs driving tonight I guess...)

On a more serious note: Be well and take care. You can do this.

I'm surprised they're meeting at a place that serves <gasp!> alcohol!  What kind of backsliding fake christians are these!?!

i'd go, drink lots of wine, and make constant obnoxious references to "the greatest miracle in the Bible" ... Jesus turning water into wine!

I am glad things may be working out.  If you are referring to the winery near the Wild Animal Park, well, that is our favorite winery.  Been wine club members their for nearly 15 years.  It would be hard to drop them.

Dinner was fun and not at all a fundy-fest.

The musician is devout but, apparently, does not make a habit of performing his religious numbers unless he is invited to do so. His latest album is quite churchy indeed but his music last evening was mostly covers of 60's & 70's easy rock and pop.

There was little fundy speak with the exception of the birthday girl acknowledging the reasons for my apprehension and taking a half-assed poke at my unbelief.

Maybe a little initial nervousness on my part in the beginning but, given my situation and the fact the the fold has made it clear that they want me back, I feel I was justified in being extremely cautious. I would not want to lose my dinner in front of a crowd of 300 after the second or third xtian tune. :woopsie:

Thank you all for your support!
