There’s a planet exactly where Star Trek said Vulcan should be

Astrophysicists just found a planet orbiting the star HD 26965, 16 light years away from Earth. Finding exoplanets is always fun, and the fact that this one is in the star’s habitable zone (where liquid water could exist on its surface) is a bonus. But that’s not why people are particularly psyched about the announcement.

If it gets destroyed on stardate 2258.42 then we'll know that was indeed the one.

     That happens in the alternate timeline.  Vulcan should be safe and sound in our timeline.  Just keep JJ Abrams away from it.  He's the destroyer of worlds franchises.

     No.  Me no likey.  Still watchey.  But no likey.   They're badly going where they've already gone before.

 

     I was intrigued by the idea of an R-rated Terantino film.  I like his movies and it might be a good film but I don't know if it would be good Trek.

I thought the spore drive was interesting (especially since I've been trying to grow mycelium that I bought from... Paul Stametz, after whom the Star Trek engineer was named), but a bit silly since we don't really detect a mycelium network in space. But overall, it was an exciting new series. The movies were fun, though I thought Cumberbatch as Khan Noonien Singh was a lousy match.
