Questioningone
“Why do you call me good! There is none good but god” ”and Jesus cursed the fig tree” (all because it wasn’t in season) Oh and the 144000..... ?? If Christianity is meant to be fulfilling why isn’t it fulfilling and full of more questions than answers? That’s what I wanna know!
TruthSeeker0
They are many and varied because the whole thing is one big farce. Except that it does so much harm to so many people. I have a visceral reaction when someone quotes the Bible, and not a good one. A couple times I have had to leave the room (when it's family) because I just can't deal with the situation very well. You can't.
Samuel
There are these verses in genesis that talk about Jacob putting polar branches in front of livestock and that causes the livestock to have spots that indicate the animals that Jacob is able to keep for himself. To me it’s clear that the writer believed this to be how it worked, and the readers also believed this to be true. We know today that looking at poplar branches cannot change an animals offspring’s colorings. So within the Bible there is this clear evidence of ignorance. It should be an instance where people say this is bullshit, ok this book is not really a good source of information. Period. Instead we have what needs to be described as lies from religious. This passage was explained to me as of course that doesn’t work like we know about genetics... duh. But... (and here comes the lie) we know that god was just letting Jacob believe that he was in control while making him succeed supernaturally the whole time. But it was a revelation to me to realize, fuck, that writer thought that this was true, and for thousands of years the readers took this literally. I would bet they even tried poplar branches on their livestock. This is a crucial context that really just fucking makes me angry: Christians who dismiss their own history and their own previous understandings.

Basically what they were saying to me now that I have persepective was we don’t know but don’t fuck up our religion because you have real world problems.

They'll tell you that "fear" in the King James means "respect" today. I think that's backwards, though. In the 1611 King James "fear" wasn't that different than "fear" today. For the most part, people really feared the lords and other property owners. There was no freedom. You had to always be afraid of these people because your life depended upon it. Likewise, they believed you had to be afraid of the god. In fact, the Bible concept of the god Yahweh/Jehovah/The LORD is like one of the property lords of the old days. Yahweh is modeled after the kings and lords of those ancient days. It says right in the text that he's jealous!

None of that watering down of definitions in my ex church, it was fear god all the way.

When it was pointed out in the book of Matthew, I showed them that the Church had not come about. They were under Judaism. Not until the cross and the day if Pentcost had the church arrived. A couple of pastors were forced to agree when I asked them to show me in any of the Church epistles, but they kept teaching it anyway. That is one of the early visible proverbial cracks in the walls if the institution. That’s about the only thing I appreciated about the Church of Christ. They insisted that we were not told to tithe. It’s “give as you are prospered.” You get to decide how much is appropriate.
