WalterP
http://www.nfb.ca/film/universe/ Universe, made by the National Film Board of Canada in 1960. I watched it at school, when I was in my early teens. Advisory Note: Please don't take everything that's said as entirely accurate. In the half century since this was made we've discovered new evidence that overturns some of the ideas presented here. For instance, galaxies don't pass through each other without distorting each other. Nor are the colour variations on Mars a sign of vegetation undergoing seasonal change. Perhaps its best to think of this film nostalgically and just enjoy it for the beautiful period-piece it is. Thank you, Walter.
pantheory
Yes, pretty cool astronomy film nostalgia. 1960, the year I graduated from high school and entered college -- two to three years after becoming a very happy atheist This was about 5 years before the main confrontation in cosmology between Big Bang and Steady State cosmology advocates and the domination of Big Bang cosmology not long thereafter.
