Rebuttal of Newsweek column on Science & God

If you take an absolute view on things, then the terms gnostic and agnostic become meaningless.  Gnostic is impossible, so everything is agnostic by default.  There is no point using either label because one has no meaning and one is the only position that can be held.

A recent short Newsweek column by one Stephen C. Meyer promotes three reasons why scientific discoveries supposedly support the existence of God (yes, that god).

Biologist blogger Jerry Coyne issues a comprehensive rebuttal here, well worth reading…

I read that about half the scientists in the US, similarly in the world either believe in God or spirituality. More in the social sciences than in the physical sciences..

That is true!

Gnostic positions on ultimate reality are pure delusion. Whether coming from a theistic or atheistic perspective.

To live, grow, mature and reproduce before dying and becoming "fertilizer" that helps future life to repeat the cycle.

When you stop and think about this, if this continues for eons, will the world get to the point it can't sustain more life?

Probably. The earth will also die a fire death at the hand of the sun's final life cycle. It seems that there's only two real choices. Carry on isolated to this planet until life is snubbed out. Or keep pushing technology until it opens up new windows for space exploration and colonization of elsewhere in the universe.
