Molech not a god...

Do you recall hearing preachers go on about the bronze idol that was heated internally with fire until glowing red and that infants were dropped onto it as sacrifices, and loud drums were beat to drown out the sounds, and how that is what abortion is today?

 

The language scholars on this video say that nearly 100 years ago, that a German figured out that the language doesn't indicate that "passing through the fire" had anything to do with this imagined idol or that a god named Molech even was worshiped. Instead the word translated as the name Molech is just a kind of sacrifice, pronounced something like "molk". The infant still was killed (likely in a sacrifice to Yahweh by uneducated folk worshipers), but all of the other imagery was apparently imaginary and just repeated by preachers for dramatic effect.
