Cousin Ricky
As I type this, my mom is at a Palm Sunday concert at her church. She asked me if I was going, and I declined. I didn’t tell her why.I went last year. The music, singing, and dancing were beautiful, but the lyrics were toxic. “Oh, sinner...!” blah blah blah.I was cognizant of the toxicity of the Christian message long before I deconverted. We’re broken, and we need fixing. We’re nothing without God; aren’t you grateful he did you little shit a favor and rescued you from the fate you so truly deserve? Serve everyone ahead of you and put yourself last. But, feeling bound by Roman Catholic doctrine, I did my best to cope with that message. Now that I no longer recognize the teaching authority of the RCC, I do not wish to sit through the debasement, especially when they request a donation for the privilege.
