pantheory
Speculation is the right word. Colliding universes? Multiverse theory is a type of speculation in that related proposals are not based upon science. Seemingly countless explanations could be found for large cold spots if countless alternative theories, hypothesis, and other speculations could all be considered. There is science, however, for the existence of cold spots in the microwave background. If the microwave background is not the result of an original Big Bang beginning then such very large cold sports and related temperature variations would be expected by some alternative theories. Without explanation this finding could be considered just another very small part of a long list of evidence contrary to BB cosmology. In my opinion the sum of these contrary observations and related evidence overwhelmingly questions the validity of the BB model http://lesswrong.com/lw/li9/some_recent_evidence_against_the_big_bang/
bornagainathiest
http://litebird.jp/eng/ I believe that one of Litebird 's tasks will be to carefully examine the polarization of the CMB in and around the Cold Spot. If it finds a signature that agrees with a prediction...
