Why I Am Probably Unsuited For Academia

Though I am in seriously early stages of my education, I tend to think far ahead about where I want to go and what I want to be and that leads me to the title of my blog post. Though I am technically a 'leftist' I am actually so close to the center that a 'real leftist' may mistake me for a conservative or worse but that's beside the point. Anyways, the main reasons I believe I am unsuited for academia are simple. I am not a conformist, I am not a die hard liberal and I am certainly not politically correct.

Academia is like any clique really and as such there's a huge thing about conforming and fitting in. It seems like critical thinking (which they advocate and apparently promote) is taboo and you must conform and fit in with the herd. This can be seen in the relatively few conservatives found in university faculty, the mob behavior against minority positions (I've seen it with my own eyes, they can be savage. Academics, not to mention scientists are not as objective, rational and logical as they try to appear) and the fact that they tend to jump on the bandwagon with political correctness rubbish.

I really detest political correctness because it employs the use of euphemism treadmills and makes a mountain out of a molehill for non issues. I feel like I am a bit crazy having to say this but not every statement is a subtle indicator of sexism, racism or homophobia. Take comments at face value. If someone states they can't pronounce someone's name it's not fucking racist. Seriously.

Anyways, my blood is somewhat boiling thinking about it and it's for that reason that I know that academia would not be for me. I can't handle such behavior and as such it's probably a regular 9-5 job for me when I'm done.
