Goodbye Jesus

End Times?

Old people always think we are in the "End Times, my friend. End Times". and for them, well, it IS the end times. Cuz no one really wants to leave the movie before they see how it turns out. Alas, we must all check out and leave the plot unfinished.

What amuses me the most about this particular date is that it is the Winter Solstice. Saw that one right away. And it's a Mayan calendar. The Mayans are amazing in their time tracking abilities. So I really laughed hard when I heard Mayan.

Save lots of cash this year and tell people you're not xmas shopping because of it. Heck put it on your facebook/twitter/g+ accts, and see what people say. Could be funny. :)

Thanks, it almost seems like they want disasters to happen so the world can end and they can go to heaven.

This is one of the most disturbing things about the Christian faith. At the end of the day, this life is just a necessary unpleasantry that must be endured on the path to better things.

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." (Philippians 1:21)

How depressing.

Yup. My wife and I have a fundie friend who can hardly wait.

Not saying I agree with them but theres lots of "fundie" vids on youtube regarding the "end times". They give examples of recent mass animal deaths (dolphins, etc), crazy weather (tornados, earthquakes, etc) and a possible US/Israel war with Iran. I'm basically agnostic and hope these are just coincidences but some of them are pretty convincing.

Stealth44, I'm 41 years old, and for my entire lifetime there have been mysterious mass animal deaths, crazy weather, and, since 1979, the possibility of a war between the US and Israel and Iran.

None of this stuff is new. You just need to look at it in historical context.

What would our present day fundamentalist have made of the 18th century in Europe?

Earthquake destroys Lisbon?

Wars and threats of wars between France and England?

The French Revolution partly brought on by extreme weather?

Surely the Lord will be here by 1800!!!

the other part of the whole end times thing is the cash. Most messages are followed up with a plea for cash so they can go on, 'spreading the warning' or 'blowing the trumpet'.

The End Times seemed to peak in popularity in the early 00s. Its amazing how big a cash cow the Left Behind series was. Movies, Novels, videogames... Harold Camping made his prediction far too late.

Well he still made out pretty good from it.

My friends and I are already planning our Mayan end of the world party. Our tag line is:

If the world is ending, who would you rather be with than us? GONZ9729CustomImage1539775.gif

We are inviting around 100 people...so let me know if you're in the great white North around then! 68.gif

I was raised in Adventism, and I am VERY familiar with the "end times" talk. I remember every Saturday during service I was reminded of how the world was going to end. Adventists worship on Saturday(aka the Sabbath). They believe in the Sunday Law, which is the belief that Sunday-keepers(those worshiping on Sunday)will pass a law requiring everyone to worship on Sunday. This event will take place during the End Times. Then they will come after the adventists, persecute them, torture them, and kill them for their beliefs. Of course they won't tell you that at first, even if you ask.

Awesome! Just remember to not drink so much that the next day feels like the world ended. :)

True, but Ron has been enjoying it more AND getting paid to do it. Jesus still can't quite get there?

Maybe he needs to see a doctor. :D

I just love end times crap. I make fun of it often. Here is a great site with all the dates from 44AD on. http://www.bible.ca/...ate-setters.htm

...and here is this site, with a list going back to 2800BCE with all the failed end-times predictions: http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm

NB: Might take you a few hours to get through it all :)

But apparently Ron Jeremy doesn't have the quickly coming part down. oh wait. Jesus hasn't come yet. Maybe he needs cialis so he's ready "when the moments right".

Every time someone says the end times are coming they wind up soundly disappointed. It's seems more like the moment you get a bunch of symptoms and use WebMD and the main cause is cancer but turns out it's just a bad virus.

LOL I love it, the first one from 2800 BCE says the world "is speedily coming to an end". Sooo... it's been 4800 years, what is their definition of speedy? Ahh, prehistoric entertainment, it always makes me laugh. :)

Hi Stealth, no doubt there is heavy stuff happening in the world, although I think your ecological disasters are more pressing right now than political ones, bad as they are (no comparison to WWII!) My father used to have a tract from the Jehovah's Witnesses from the 1920s. It showed convincingly that Mussolini was the antichrist and that the second coming was imminent. I don't know if you were around for the Late Great Planet Earth and the Dave Wilkerson vision hoopla of the early 1970s- I and many other fundies were convinced that the Rapture was coming soon. And on and on....

Heh. People have always predicted the 'end of the world'. There's always going to be soem nutjob that says we're all going to die on may 21, 2011 (lol fail), or that a bunch of animals dying means the world is somehow ending. Sadly they won't be stopping anytime soon either.

On may 21st, 2011 I hung out on 4chan's anime board and rewatched the end of evangelion on livestream with a bunch of people.

"It all returns to nothing, it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down!"

Fun times!

Yeah, that site has so many dates and failed predictions, they needed like six tabs for them all lol. When will these people give up on the idea?

Maybe we should make bumper stickers with these dates and they would say;

"The world ended on 10/28/1992, just one more date I'm late for!"

or

"The world ended on 10/28/1992, I see you missed it as well. :)"

"Honk if you missed the end of the world on 10/28/92"

"If the world ended in 1992, where the hell am I?"

June 9, 1994 Pastor John Hinkle claimed that God told him the Apocalypse would take place on this day. In a cataclysmic event, God was supposed to "rip the evil out of this world." When the prophecy failed, he claimed that it's only the beginning and it's taking place invisibly. (Oropeza p.167-168)

Gee that sounds familiar.

Harold Camping reaffirms October date for the end of the world, says May 21 date was ‘invisible judgment day

As one talking head on the History channel put it. Through out history there has been a game of pin the tail on the antichrist. Seems christian's do the same with

THE END OF THE WOOOOOORLD

Hey nontaxtian!

When you say Adventism, you mean Seventh Day Adventism, right?

If that's so, may I ask you some questions?

One of our 'resident' Christian apologists is a certain Thumbelina. She's been asked many times (not just by me) if she is an SDA, but never replies to that request. She also been asked other stuff, but flatly refuses to engage in anything but the content of the Bible. So, is she toeing some kind of party line here?

You say that Adventists won't divulge certain things about their beliefs, even if they're asked outright. Why is that? Can you help me out here please?

Thanks in advance,

BAA.

I find it so interesting that the xians go to this supernatural magical excuse when they are caught in a failed lie. And yet they condemn things like Harry Potter which is fiction anyhow.

I would believe Harry Potter had powers before I ever believed something like an invisible day of judgement.

Thanks for posting that, Harold is always good for a laugh. :D

Maybe I'll take a ride in my invisible Ferrari to my invisible South of France Villa later. cool.png
