Saviourmachine
Punishment of Moral Acts Another weird concept in xianity is the idea that a God would use literal punishment of humans (or his own son) to patch up for moral acts. Parents learn that they have to use verbal reprimands to educate their kids. Beating them at home or at school is not considered as the best means to reach your goals. Wouldn't God be able to consider less devasting ways to punish the beings he created? Besides that, regard the nature of punishment in afterlife. It's not meant to rehabilitate the criminal, or to protect society against him. It's only just serves 'justice'. The question is if it's the case that the punishment fits the crime. Does God follow his own code of 'an eye for an eye'?
Saviourmachine
Greatness of Victim If we for a moment not consider the weird notion that God can be the Victim of us, infinitesimal small humans, why would the Greatness of the Victim be the standard of the Severeness of the Punishment? Would you deserve Punishment X if you'd murder Person X and Punishment Y if you'd murder Person Y? Is your guilt bigger in either case? Is it allowed to steal from thiefs, or does that make you a thief too?
Ouroboros
That's a thought... The concept of inherited sin is something very undefined and non-tangible in the sense that it is something spiritual, and not something physical that is transfered. But yet God had to do the atonement by a physical act of killing Jesus. This is probably the foundation to why the Gnostic church didn't believe in a physical Jesus, but only a spiritual Jesus.
