Reason VS Faith

Religion and faith have always been following behind the tails of reason. When the Copernican view of the universe was firmly established, articles of faith had to be rewritten... not because faith is honest or self-correcting, but because reason couldn't be restrained.

Christians have often claimed that reason and faith are reconcilable... that faith does not contradict reason and vice versa. But this is only because they won't allow such a contradiction to exist in the first place, it isn't because the mechanisms between reason and faith fit together well. If rational inquiry does not contradict an article of faith (yet), the Theist will proclaim the power of faith in determining truth. If and when rational inquiry does cross that line, Theists will either make often dishonest and weak attacks against reason (such as the Galileo issue, or the Evo-YEC debate), or religion undergoes a rewrite after a great deal of struggle. In the end, Theists proudly claim that when articles of faith are interpreted correctly, the two are perfectly reconcilable.

The interaction between Faith and Reason has historically consisted of a great deal of reinterpretations on the part of Faith due to "errors of interpretation."

So the final question really is, what the hell has faith done to determine truth in the first place?

I don't speak with any kind of authority on the matter, but if you want my take on the issue...

Not a damn thing.

Faith is when you've decided what you think, and you no longer care about the facts.

Faith is a form of a mental placebo until a real truth is found.

The struggle that you mentioned is kinda like a withdrawl symptom. :Hmm:
