Beowulf
A rant generated by lack of sleep... I just got back from a conference at Myrtle Beach. It also happened to be Bike Weekend down there, so all night long I heard the sound of Harley straight pipes running up and down Ocean Boulevard. I think I finally dropped off to sleep at 3:00 AM. At exactly 6:00 AM, someone started playing very loud Contemporary Christian music - enough to awaken the entire hotel. I don’t know if it was someone’s idea of an alarm clock, or if it was some zealot who wanted to annoy these sinful bikers. Regardless, I think it annoyed EVERYONE and did nothing to endear anyone to their religious inclinations. I found this to be even worse than the bike noise. That was bad enough, but at least they're not trying to convert everyone.
Jeydid
Perhaps you should get some Death Metal to keep handy for retaliation purposes.
Beowulf
Perhaps you should get some Death Metal to keep handy for retaliation purposes. Not a bad idea, but I think I'll save it for 11:00 AM Sunday morning. (Said in jest, of course. I'm not going to sink to their level.)
Jeydid
That's right, doing anything like putting porn flyers on the cars parked outside a church would just be beneath you. But if someone else did it, I am not above snickering about it.

Ha, ha.... wouldn't I love to see the faces of the holy people when they see what's there!
Thackerie
I once had the misfortune of having to take a taxi driven by a fundie evangelizer. I had just sat down in the back seat when he turned on a loud tape of some fundie preacher talking about jay-zus and hell fire, etc., etc., and then the driver said (not asked), "I hope you don't mind if I listen to something spiritual." Just as sweetly and lady-like as possible, I said, "Oh, go right ahead. I'm listening to my walkman (this was long before the day of Ipods), and your tape won't bother me at all. In fact, I won't even hear it." I got a kick out of seeing his jaw clench in obvious anger that his "spiritual" message would not reach his captive audience. I got a bigger kick out of leaving him with absolutely no tip at all. I hope he understood why.

When we came out of service a team from a Fundy church was out in the parking lot passing out tracts and inviting us to THEIR church. I think I would prefer the porn flyers. Naughtyhamster
My grandmother (she's xtian) had a problem last month when she took a shuttle van to the airport. I thought it was funny when she called us the next day from Oregon and complained how the shuttle driver got into a theological debate with her when all she wanted to do was relax and listen to the gospel music he was playing on the radio. The theological debate started as he asked her if she went to church, and she mentioned a part of the Bible that said that Jeebus says in the end days that the church will be full of hypocrites and liars and that it's better to worship Gawd in your own time and home. Some younger xtians can't stand her as they think she's too "liberal" though she had grown up in the strict Baptist and Pentecostal culture and knows all the bullshit of organized religion. She told my mother's pastor a few months ago that she does "What Jeebus wants me to do not what some man in clergy robes wants me to do."
