Reading The Bible To Children

Sometimes, consolidating the things Christians say is an effective way to show Christianity doesn’t work.

An example would be the adult-oriented passages of scripture. Most Christians are of the consensus that you must measure the biblical information you tell your child. In other words, don’t go reading to a five-year-old about the Amelekite slaughter or Lot’s incestuous encounter with his two daughters because they aren’t of sufficient experience to understand such things.

Okay…

But these same people expose the youngest minds to the horror of the Deluge, the doctrine of total depravity (something they can’t possibly understand), and the violence of the atonement (something they couldn’t possibly understand without knowing what total depravity is).

So on one hand they will tell you that certain parts of the Bible weren’t meant for young ears, while on the other hand they try to convince you that young ears, with the help of the Holy Spirit, understand sin and bloody sacrifice. (See Jesus Camp to witness the horrors of teaching children something they can't possibly understand.)

Like I said, just consolidate the information that Christians tell you. See it in one “layer” and you will expose the madness they are trying to make you believe.

Of course, there is nothing quite so cutsie as a big boat floating away with the cute lil' animals and the gray haired old guy as all the rest of the world is drowned to death.

Or God letting the Isrealites out of Egypt while at the same time killing all the Egyptian babies...
