Lanakila
That one and the Psalm about dashing the little ones against the stones were involved in my eventual deconversion. I couldn't believe that God is love reading those verses, and realized that the NT god and the OT god were obviously different deities.

Eponymic
"And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the fleshof their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend... Do we get to have Buffalo Sauce with that? Cause if not, then to hell with eating my daughters. I only eat daughters with Buffalo Sauce & a sprig of cilantro...and maybe a nice Reisling if I'm in the mood.
shotsy
It's interesting, I was reading about Gnosticism today, and I guess the Gnostics actually viewed Yahweh as a petty, foolish narcissist who screwed up the world when he created it. They viewed the snake in the garden of eden as a liberator because he got the humans to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and to see what an ass Yahweh was. Gnosis was, in part, about being free from the reign of Yahweh on this earth, and being united with the ultimate God. I'll have to read some more on this insightful belief system. Antlerman
Jeremiah 19:9"And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them." Let me restate this, "And I will be the one responsible for them to eat the flesh of their own children". Now that's love for you! Worthy of worship? Well, only under the threat of him making me eat my kid. At least he's accepting responsiblity here. Usually he just says it our fault.
Fweethawt
At one time, we had a person here who gave an "apologetic" explanation for those verses. (S)He said that it was describing a time when the hardships of a certain tribe caused them to become cannibals. And since they were hungry, and couldn't resist the hunger pangs, well -- it was God's will that they eat each other. I suppose. Nutty motherfuckers, anyway. The apologists, that is.
