I have scored 100% on UU for so long, I finally decided to join. Made some Damn good Athiest/Theist/Apatheist friends there.

100% Secular Humanist, 92% Unitarian Universalism, and 78% Nontheism. My scores change when I choose different "this is very important to me" options, but these are always the top 3.

My top:

1. Mahayana Buddhism (100%)

2. Neo-Pagan (100%)

3. Unitarian Universalism (97%)

4. Hinduism (96%)

5. Theravada Buddhism (96%)

The bottom:

23. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (31%)

24. Eastern Orthodox (30%)

25. Islam (30%)

26. Roman Catholic (30%)

27. Jehovah's Witness (19%)

I am actually fond of some aspects of Eastern Orthodoxy, so would rank it much higher up on the list. They got Jehovah's Witensses right being at the bottom but I can't even believe its 19%. I can't stand that religion.

I like to take this test from time to time.

I forget how many times I've done this. This is at least the third or fourth time. There is a thread on here somewhere "What are you now?"

For a while I came out as Mainline or Liberal Protestant. I think I have also come out as Liberal Quakers, and as UU. I wasn't going to do the quiz again but then I saw someone said they like to do it time and again. I realized that I have probably made some subtle changes in my beliefs, though I didn't really think so.

On questions about god and religious rituals like baptism I said it's not important to salvation--in other words, I don't care either way. If someone wants to get baptized, or get a child baptized, that's their prerogative. Whether or not there is a god is not important to human existence so far as I am concerned. I've held this position on god for quite a while.

There has been a slight change in my real life--I joined the local humanist group, but I didn't think that impacted my beliefs. However, when I came to questions about things like abortion and homosexual behaviour, I realized that I do have strong feelings on the topics--it is very important to me that no judgment be passed and that it is open for individual choice. I don't know if there is an official humanist position on this or not but it seems more humane to me that there be a choice. That must be what tipped the balance.

I came out as 100% secular humanist. I think this is the first time in a long time that my outer and inner labels match so comfortably. When I came out as liberal Protestant, Quaker, or as UU, I figured: Okay. I am comfortable with them. One can believe pretty much anything with them and still be considered a Christian. However, I was not committed enough to seek out and join a church.

Here are my scores for this time:

1. Secular Humanism (100%)

2. Unitarian Universalism (92%)

3. Liberal Quakers (79%)

4. Nontheist (74%)

5. Neo-Pagan (67%)

6. Theravada Buddhism (67%)

7. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (63%)

8. Taoism (54%)

9. New Age (53%)

10. Orthodox Quaker (44%)

11. Reform Judaism (44%)

12. Mahayana Buddhism (43%)

13. Bahá'í Faith (29%)

14. Sikhism (29%)

15. Scientology (28%)

16. Jainism (27%)

17. New Thought (25%)

18. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (22%)

19. Seventh Day Adventist (20%)

20. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (18%)

21. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (16%)

22. Hinduism (14%)

23. Eastern Orthodox (11%)

24. Islam (11%)

25. Orthodox Judaism (11%)

26. Roman Catholic (11%)

27. Jehovah's Witness (7%)

As I look over the list I am affected the same way some others were--does it really reflect my beliefs? They post a disclaimer stating that they do not have perfect knowledge on these things. I think they look at the "faith statements" of the religions they post, and then compare the compatibility of one's answers with each of those faith statements. If you look closely you will notice that the options one can choose for answers include important terms that individual religions use for important beliefs within that religion.

One non-Christian term that comes to mind as I write is "harmonize" or "harmony." While Christians may want peace and harmony, the word itself is not a religious term, but baptize is a distinctly Christian religious term. My guess (based on very limited knowledge) is that "harmony" is a vital term to some Eastern Religions.

I've been surprised that I never come out as New Age or Pagan. Perhaps this has a lot to do with the fact that I never choose options that indicate belief in more than one god or goddess. The closest I have ever come to belief in multiple gods is that "god is in everything and everything is god," or "conscious force of the universe." I thought the "everything is god and god is everything" concept means multiple gods. Apparently it does not count that way on this test.

Hmm... I have been thinking about trying to attend a UU service for a while, so I guess I ought to go. Overall I'm not that surprised by the results, although I can't believe I got a 62% for Scientology. I like relatively close to their base in Clearwater and they are pretty whacko! I'm also surprised that I received a higher ranking for Liberal Quakers than for Secular Humanism.

I've been reading the book Parenting Beyond Belief and it mentions connecting with the Unitarian Universalists as a sort of community for disbelievers and non-traditional believers. I looked them up in the yellow pages of the phone book to see if there was a church of this type anywhere around.

Threre are 80 cults (oh, excuse me--churches) in my smallish hometown (13,350 population) most of which are some form of baptist. There is no Unitarian Universalist. However, 35 miles away in a fairly large city (population 198,000) there is ONE Unitarian Universalist church. Might be interesting to take the family and go. We do sometimes feel left out when it comes to a "church family."

BTW here are my results of the Belief-O-Matic:

1. Secular Humanism (100%)

2. Unitarian Universalism (92%)

3. Nontheist (81%)

4. Liberal Quakers (73%)

5. Theravada Buddhism (69%)

6. Neo-Pagan (59%)

22. Hinduism (13%)

23. Eastern Orthodox (11%)

24. Islam (11%)

25. Orthodox Judaism (11%)

26. Roman Catholic (11%)

27. Jehovah's Witness (5%)

Interesting. I wonder how these results would change in, say, 6 months or a year (if a person is new to deconversion as I sort of am). What I mean is how many newly deconned people are answering these questions passionately because of reaction to Xtian bullshit rather than answering more carefully after examining the nuances of their thoughts.
