The Man Who Caught Fish

The man had been a fisherman for years and years. Everyday he came down to the beach, cast his line in and waited for the fish to jump on his bait.

Some fish he caught he would keep. These were the ones that were the most pleasing to him. The fisherman would take those select fish and place them in an aquarium at his home. The aquarium was as big as his house, with plenty of room for many, many fish.

Other fish he caught, ones he did not see as worthy of his aquarium, he would give to his servant, for the fisherman was a very rich man, which was why he could come down to the beach daily just to fish. Now the servant would take the unpleasing fish, no matter how enthusiastically they had jumped on the bait, and bring them back to the house. But, instead of going into the beautiful aquarium, the fish would be used as fuel for the furnace so the house always had heat and hot water. Though the owner was rich, he saw no need to spend money when he didn't need to.

The fisherman's father was an ornery fellow. He was the one who had made the fortunes the fisherman now enjoyed the benefits of. Back in his day, the father did not fish as his son does now. The father spent his time early in his career as an artist. He worked in many mediums, including sculptures. Give him just a little bit of clay, and he could mold a masterpiece. He also tried his hand in politics, helped shape some very important legislation. In business he was so ruthless in his dealings, many lesser entrepreneurs went bankrupt trying to compete. The father either swallowed the competitor's market share whole, of made sure no one would profit from the region again.

But that was a long time ago. The fisherman's father has been retired for a number of years. He had handed the family business over to his son, but after one failed attempt to introduce a new product, the son went into semi-retirement, letting his servants run the day to day operation, giving him time for his one love, fishing.
