Tabula Rasa
I'd thought about doing this earlier but finally was inspired to do this by Par's critique of Amazing Grace.(By the way Par, another way to have fun with that song is by singing it to the tune of "Shake it up" by The Cars" Anyway... It seems almost ridiculously simple to tweak How Great Thou Art into a Deist hym, even though so far as I know , most deists don't pray or sing hyms. I almost have to wonder if the author might have had some deist leanings. Anyway, here's the fixed version of How Great Thou Art. O Great Lord God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, My Creator God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Creator God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees. When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. Then sings my soul, My Creator God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Creator God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! Short and sweet. All I had to do was change a few words and drop the self loathing saved from wretchedness stanzas, and I think it sounds rather nice.

jchpiper
Enjoyed it Tabula. I confess, I like the hymn...it stirs something in my soul still, and may always. Your version is the better. *thumbsup* :-)
