Goodbye Jesus

If It Weren't For The Sign....

I don't know how widespread this is, but up in Alaska during tax season there are a good number of people hired to stand outside and dance around, waving big signs that invite one to come inside and get their taxes done at a discount. Often they have to wear statue of liberty costumes, or other various patriotic garb like that. Keeping in mind it's still winter then, I feel bad for them and assume they dance to keep warm.

However, yesterday I was in shock when I saw another one of (what I thought) was these people at one of the bigger intersections. This girl was waving a sword made out of tinfoil and cardboard, a white silky looking outfit with more tinfoil made to look like armor on her torso, and another little tinfoil helmet on her head. At first I saw the sword waving, and not thinking about the fact that it's AFTER April 15th, assumed it was a tax salesman. As I passed by I looked again and realized she had written in large letters across her chest, "Believe Jesus."

WTF?!?!?!!?!?!?!? :twitch:

That's all it said. So, what was she trying to do? Make christians feel justified by getting to watch someone doing something stupid to fight for the faith? Convert someone? Finish a bet or a dare?

I mean, seriously, I don't know anyone who, if told, 'believe Jesus' and who had already heard the story reading that would convert. What is this, a thought dictatorship where we're all expected to automatically act on anything we see? Does that mean like in the TV series third rock from the sun, when their tv says it's time for 'must see tv', all the aliens crowd around because they figure if they don't see it they'll be killed by the earthlings? Or that everyone really needs viagra, or that God really should bless the homeless person because it says so on the signs they write?

It made me so irritated if I didn't have both my kids (who are 1 and 3) with me I think I would have stopped and came up to the woman and asked "why?" Cause then I could really dig into her and have my first real christian bashing.

:woohoo:

I don't know, I think all the insidiousness of theism in general is starting to really piss me off. Ironic because philosophically I tend to be one, but it's all the personal theists who dismiss atheists as, well, anything they can think of. grrrrrr........

You should have went up to them wearing a white silky outfit while waving a sword around and had "Believe Allah" on your outfit.

Or my husband's suggestion is to use 'believe Cthulu', or 'believe the Spaghetti Monster'

That's what happens when one blindly clings to dogma in spite of reality.

Da babble describes that it's enough to preach the bullshit gospel and all people will convert immediately (well, except for some few who are there only so that the morontheists can claim "there's saaataaan at work!").

So out goes today's morontheist and preaches the bullshit gospel and expects all but those few "quota saaataaanists" to convert on the spot. It knows that it will work because hey, it's written in da babble.

:banghead:

Pity that those braindead fucktards never feel determined to try and pass the Mark poison test. Guess they don't really believe after all. :lmao:
