Hijacking threads

Recommended Posts

In more than one thread the same person has accused me of hijacking threads. So in order to know for myself what you all think, I will simply ask and not assume what you all think. SO here we go.

Does anybody here think that I:

1. hijack threads?

2. Have a problem with my debating style?

3. Have a problem with me in general?

Or even

Has anybody started a thread with the express purpose of complaining about me hijacking the threads?

Honest opinions only please. I am asking for constructive criticism only, not open season on my beliefs. Thank you.

Same here.

That said, everyone hijacks threads every so often. It just happens, period. At worst it's a matter of quota. ;)

I don't think you and I have had any run-ins in the debates, so you have no problems with me. There was a couple of times when I lifted one eyebrow for something, but nothing that was outside your right to believe in.

And about hijacking threads, I do it a lot too, but I'm learning to realize it faster now, so eventually I might be able to say in the first post I do it, that I'll take it in another topic. It's really easy to slip into a sub-thread or a totally different topic. It happens.

The only time a hijack gets irritating is when it keeps on going and the whole topic got lost, and the thread expands and grows until no one knows where "what" started.

I can honestly say that I haven't noticed YOU "hijack" any threads.

I have noticed that threads in general get sidetracked from the original post, but that is usually accidental and no one person's fault.

It's a common hazard in the Debate forum, and damn near impossible to avoid unless someone is watching out for it.

If someone has accused you of "intentionally" hi-jacking a thread, Star, I'd say ignore them. They were probably overly sensitive that day.

We've all been guilty at one time or another, without even noticing.

Kind of like when that groundsman touched a fair ball that he thought was foul. Should the team benefit from his mistake or be punished?

(Now THAT would be an example of deliberate hi-jacking! )

Love ya!

In my experience you can't hijack a thread to the point of no return unless the subject has run it's course anyway. Someone always comes along and steers it back to topic.

Oh and wouldn't someone saying on the thread that you hijacked the thread be hijacking the thread?

I also enjoy ebay and have sold as well as bought things on it. My rating is only 97.8% because people in general suck who shop on ebay.

Also I will add that I miss the Unhijackable thread that we used to have.

I'd be more than happy to bring this back around to the original topic but have totally lost track of what it was. :lmao: Which is Okay because I am PR

Another input from little me here... a hijack doesn't work unless someone picks up on it. Just like a heated argument or a fight, it takes two.

So don't blame yourself Star, the blame is on everyone that hook into the hijack and play the game. The best response to being criticized for hijacking in a topic, is to immediately start a new topic, and then post the reference in the first one. Sometimes we don't even think we have h/j a topic, it just happens.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I like this place and plan on staying for a long while. I just wanted to be sure that I haven't offended anybody or any such thing.

I honestly believe that he doen't really read the posts and that he thinks hijacking means to disagree with him. So should I start another thread and show where I in fact did not hijack, or somply let him to continue to look like a fool?

I'd personally opt for the latter. I don't like being baited into responding to fools. (Which is why many Xians are filling up my ignore list!)

The idea of "thread hijacking" is silly. Threads go where people want to take them, and I don't see any problem with that. A thread topic is nothing more than a conversation starter, and will only remain on topic as long as some desire to keep it on track. Yelling out "thread hijacker!" is counter to everything that an internet forum stands for (generally nothing :D ).

Almost every thread that involves a fundamentalist turns into a discusson either of standards of evidence or creation vs. evolution. :Sheep:

Discussions of politics with me will generally take at least a detour through anarchy. :magic:

Discussions of love end up talking about sex, porn, or abstinance (or all three). :3some:

In the end though, all threads that don't die a natural death lead to Hitler, you mother f'ing Nazi! :vtffani:

(just kidding of course  )

The rule of h/j is different from person to person, and the only one that can claim a h/j has been done is the one that started the thread.

So if the Topic Owner makes specific rules in the start post that no h/j is allowed, or other certain rules apply, I think we all should follow those... but I can admit I rarely do, but still, the owner has some right to demand it from the participating posters...

The person who starts it certainly has a right to try to direct it where they want, but so does anyone else who posts. The webmaster is the only one who ultimately has a right to move threads as s/he wishes.

ROFL what is the "womb of the week" award.

:lmao: I just made it up :HaHa: it sounded better than "Bestest Breeder Award" he he he and is the good counterpart to the "Caustic C--t"

It'll be an award I give for the sake of calling even more attention to myself by mentioning another member in a thread. :woohoo:
