Goodbye Jesus

A Little Help Is Needed

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

I have a friend who was prior a bit of a deist but could not stand to worship the Christian god, but recently she has been going through some mental issues. Well, a little wench preyed upon her and told her she needed to seek out the Christian god for salvation and guidance, so now she has become Christian. To put this all in perspective, this friend of mine isn't a biological female, so to be right with God, she has to reject the feeling that she is female--she told me that when she looks in the mirror and sees a male, she wants to cut her wrists.

Because she has been presented this pretty little Christian package, I need to show her the evil side. This is where I am asking for help; I know about the atrocities committed by God but I do not know the exact passages, and those are the passages I want to give her. I definitely feel like momma bear trying to teach her child not to do something because it will seriously harm the child.

Jesus tears apart families just like cults do (because christianity originally WAS a cult!)Matthew 10:35-36

Blessed is he who smashes your children against a rock. Psalm 137:9

God causes people to believe a lie 2Thessalonians 2:10,11

If my mind was working better right now, I'd add more. Good luck!

Another pointed question to ask: What gender is god? Really? Last I checked it didn't matter.

You know, if unable to convince the person that Christianity is a bad idea, it may be a good idea to put them in contact with a group like the Metropolitan Community Church or one of the LGBTQ-friendly groups...or pull materials from their sites that argue against the (unfortunately) more common biggoted versions of xtianity. Better yet, get her in contact with something like the UUs.

At first blush, this seems to be more of a need for damage control to your friend than anything else. It's often easier to redirect rather than stop.

I can't help but want to wish your friend the best. Preying on the weak and confused is the hallmark of xianity.

I'm almost ready just to let her see the brutal truth. If she wants to go around believing the liberal idea that God loves her no matter what, then let her suffer. I wouldn't doubt that little wench already has told her that she is to no longer talk to me.

Christianity is poison, and you're looking at more to give her. Any passages given to her will only contribute to the delusion that the bible contains any truth.

I suggest another approach. Demonstrate to her how absurd Christianity is. It's really not all that difficult, if you and she are willing to commit the time. Plenty of resources exist on the internet. If time is short, watch a George Carlin movie, or get her to read a Carl Sagan book. Make sure she knows that non-belief is perfectly okay.

Ugh...Xianity and mental issues mix like milk and fruit juice...

Somehow point out that Xianity is a Band-Aid solution. It will just make things worse in the long-term though.

I wish the best for your friend.

Why does she think this 'god' is going to help her over let's say medication and counseling?

The Skeptic's Annotated Bible is a great resource for stuff like this. You can sort by book or by issues, such as "contradictions" "injustice" "homosexuality" "women" etc. You can also check out the Malleus Maleficarum (Hammer of the Witches) which was the standard guide for identifying, torturing, and executing witches in the middle ages. It's terribly misogynistic and downright brutal. You would probably be most interested in pages 99-115 (pdf pages, that is). Full-text pdf at: http://www.malleusmaleficarum.org/?p=98

For more bbq at the stake you could look up people like Giordano Bruno, burned for advocating the heresy of a heliocentric universe or William Tyndale, burned for the heresy of translating the bible so the commoners could read it.
