rosy_mary
This is a quote from my Fundamentalist college Personal Finance textbook ("Personal Finance Stewardship, Root Your Financial Life in the Bible"): "Remember the historical facts about Jesus? That Jesus came as the Son of God, as a man lived a perfect life, died, and rose again. These are historical facts that few will try to argue with." Someone doesn't talk to atheists very much. Or agnostics. Or... well, just about anybody (other than Fundies, o'course). Edit to add: The whole book is just like this. Good god...

♦ Fuego ♦
This reminds me of the scene in Ephesus in Acts 19:35-36 at the temple of Diana (Artemis): "The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: "Men of Ephesus, doesn't all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven? Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to be quiet and not do anything rash."
Guest kcdad
("Personal Finance Stewardship, Root Your Financial Life in the Bible"): This is hilarious! Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's... only the coin that has his face on it. And render unto the church everything else with God on it. Why don't American Christian know that the early church was a bunch of Communists? Jesus was a Communist.
Ouroboros
Why don't American Christian know that the early church was a bunch of Communists? Jesus was a Communist. Exactly. Isn't if funny that one of the top leading countries to promote Christianity is based on market economy where greed is the foundation? Such a contradiction. When I grew up, we had one person in our Pentecostal Church who was a Socialist, and he said the same thing, but I could not agree or believe him back then. Probably because our opinions usually are based on what we believed, and of course I believed Socialism was from the Devil, so how could Jesus have been part of that? But who said Socialism was from the Devil? Mostly the money hungry preachers who had to justify their lavish lifestyle. Of course we didn't see much of it in the Pentecostal, but it came through the Word of Faith movement.

And wasn't the author of the original Pledge Of Allegiance a Christian socialist although the phrase "under God" was added in to combat godless communism?
