Omg. I don't know what to say.

This is truly Terror.

Ugh.

I never knew about this. Thank you for posting this. I would prefer abortion to this as a means of population control anyday. This is so utterly ruthless and sadistic, and it was supported by the RCC. Surprise Surprise.

The right wingers often insist that the Balkan War was about ethnicity, about tribalism, about race. They make it sound like they've been fighting each other for thousands of years because of some biological "tribal" instinct or some shit.

Bullshit!!! Fucking bullshit!!! FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!

The Serbs, Croats, and Bosniaks are the same fucking people, and they speak the same fucking language (Serbo-Croatian). You wanna know the difference? The Croats sucked up to the Austrians, the Bosniaks sucked up to the Turks, and the Serbs refused to suck up to either of them. The Austrians were Catholics, the Turks were Muslims, and the Serbs remained steadfastly Orthodox like their Russian big brothers.

It was fucking religious. A right wing Orthodox militia from Greece went up to fight alongside the Bosnian Serbs. What are Bosnian Serbs? People in the area now called Bosnia who didn't convert to Islam when the Turks showed up. Who are the Bosnians? The ones that did.

The ethnic jokes in the Balkans are surprisingly mild. The ones about Bosnians are about them being dimwitted and horny. The ones about MonteNegrans have to do with them being lazy. The ones about Slovenes have to do with them being snobby. Etc. etc.

However, the religious insults they throw at each other will make your atheist toes curl. Here's an example:

"As many grains of dirt that five dump trucks can haul, that's how many times I'll fuck your god."

Or how about this one?

"I'll come over and fuck every last thing in your house, your mother, your dog, your table... and then I'll fuck your god and wipe my dick with your holy book."

Fucking religion, people. That's what fucking religion does.

What really intrigues me is the silence of the media in this holocaust. I understand this silence, the Vatican was godfather of the massacre.

See this lawsuit against Vatican

What is this lawsuit all about?

In 1998 the US State Department issued a report implicating the Vatican in the 1945 disappearance of the Treasury of the Nazi Puppet State of Croatia. The purpose of this lawsuit is to obtain legal accounting of the missing funds from the Vatican Bank and Franciscan Order, recover assets and distribute them to survivors and their descendants.

How much money is involved?

Nobody knows for sure except perhaps the defendants but estimates have run from several hundred million dollars to sums as high as two billion dollars in year 2008 dollars.

Who are the defendants?

Currently the Vatican Bank and the Franciscan Order are named as defendants. Some members of the Franciscan Order of Monks in wartime Croatia were militant Catholics and led pogroms against Orthodox Christian Serbs, Roma and Jews. Franciscans in Rome helped smuggle the Ustasha Tresury and assisted Ustasha war criminals in escaping justice. The Vatican Bank is alleged to have laundered a portion of the Ustasha Treasury.

What are the Ustasha?

The Ustasha were the Croatian Nazis who ran the puppet state of Croatia between 1941 and 1945. After 1945 they fled Croatia with the help of Croatian Franciscan priests and others via the infamous ratlines. The Ustasha continued activities against Yugoslavia from bases in Spain, Argentina, Canada and the United States.

What are the Crimes of the Ustasha?

The crimes of the Ustasha are too numerous to list here but they massacred over 700,000 Serbs, Jews, Roma, Anti Fascist Partisans, and others between 1941 and 1945. The Ustasha leader Ante Pavelic was given refuge by the Vatican, fascist Spain, and Peronist Argentine. The Ustasha Minister of the Interior, Artukovic, lived openly in California from 1949-1986 when he was finally deported to Yugoslavia and convicted of murder. Thousands of Ustasha escaped justice for their crimes due to their wealth and influence and the backing of the Roman Catholic Church and who along with certain rogue elements in the US and UK governments portrayed these war criminals as anticommunist freedom fighters.

What is the Position of the Vatican?

The Vatican Bank has claimed ignorance of any participation in Ustasha crimes or the disappearance of the Croatian Treasury. The Vatican has refused to open its wartime records despite requests from the US government, Jewish and Roma organizations.

Why was this lawsuit filed in 1999?

Successes by Holocaust survivors against Austrian, French, and Swiss banks and German and Austrian corporations to name a few provided renewed hope that justice will finally prevail against the Ustasha and their allies.

Survivors have suffered for years while the killers of their families have enjoyed the wealth stolen from Holocaust victims. The US government finally broke the silence about this little known chapter of the Holocaust in 1998.

Who are the plaintiffs?

The plaintiffs consist of individual victims and their families from the United States, Serbia and Ukraine and organizations representing victims from Serbia, the former Soviet Union and the United States.

As of March 2008 the lawsuit was still pending in federal court in San Francisco. The position of the defendants unfortunately remains unchanged as original survivors of the Croatian Holocaust have died without justice.

I'm not a person who is angry at religion, and I do not think this represents the culmination of religion does, but this infuriates me. I'm not even angry at the Christian religion, but rather at Christians who have the audacity to believe in a "loving" god who stands by and does nothing while unborn children are cut from their mother's womb in the name of that god. If god can kill a man for picking up sticks on the sabbath and god does nothing when atrocities like this are committed (regardless of motive), then in eternity I will certainly stare down into the deepest pit of Hell and see that God there. What a joke.

These videos make me want to buy a gun so I can go down fighting if anything like this were to ever happen where I live, however unlikely that may be. There is just no curse I can exclaim about these monesters to do the victims justice.

My sentiments exactly, WHERE WAS GOD WHILE CHILDREN WERE HAVING THEIR SKULLS BASHED IN??? That in itself is all the more reason I have to choose not to believe the fairy tale of god. And don't tell me, "God has his reasons." BULLSHIT!!!! If "god" can stand on the sidelines and let this take place, I don't want to know that god. I dare anyone to challenge me on this.

I watched all six parts of this and I'm so pissed off I can't see straight.

I have read about some of this stuff before. If you also want to read how the churches were complicit, even instrumental in helping the Nazi's carry out the Holocaust I reccomend reading Hitler's Willing Executioners. Though the book is not without it's flaws, it does have some enlightening points on the role of the Church in the lead-up and carrying out of the Holocaust.

Thinking about this era always brings up the question of whether these atrocities were influenced by religion or not. Christians always accuse Hitler of being an atheist, but most of us know that isn't true. I just found a link between Martin Luther's hateful book, "On the Jews and Their Lies" (http://www.nobeliefs.com/luther.htm) and Hitler. Kristallnacht was on Martin Luther's birthday as a celebration of his ideas.

How come whenever we study the Holocaust, we're told never to keep silent, but then we're never taught about Croatia?

There is quite a bit about the Holocaust that you aren't usually told in school, for example it was also used to try to exterminate the gypsies. The greatest educational crime is to represent the Holocaust as an aberration of human behavior. It is not.

The Yugoslavian Partisans included Croats as well as Serbs, Slovenes, Bosniaks, etc. Yugoslavia was the only nation aside from the Soviet Union that liberated itself from the Nazis without significant outside help. This was why Yugoslavia escaped Sovietization (unlike Eastern Europe) and was considered "market socialism" with an open relationship to the West during the post-war years. Josef 'Tito' Broz, the leader of the Partisans and who was the President of Yugoslavia until about 1980, was actually half Serb half Croat himself, and was seen by many as a unifier of all the Yugoslavs (Southern Slavs). Things started falling apart after Tito died, and a lot of right wing nuts that had formerly been suppressed started getting a lot of sway. But that's another story for another time.

There were Croats on the side of the Partisans as well as Croats who were collaborationists, not to mention the countless Croatian civilians who were just trying to keep their heads down hoping they'd survive to the end. After the Nazis were driven out, the Croat collaborationists were either butchered (there was lots of payback after the war) or they fled to Germany. I imagine most the Nazi Croats were butchered by Partisan Croats. To this day you'll hear right wingers in the area and up in far northeastern Italy (the Istrian Peninsula which is part of modern day Croatia, and the western third of Slovenia, were Italian territory after World War I) claim that the Partisans were vicious butchers. Well, chances were, if you were a collaborator and a Partisan came and killed you after your Nazi/Fascist overlords were driven off, chances were it was because you had raped that guy's sister or sent his brothers to a Kamp or shot his parents. Well, after all that revenge was carried out, Croatia was part of Yugoslavia and were just as Yugoslavian as the Serbs and the rest.

So in short, it was some, not all Croats who were involved, and just as many Croats were involved in the resistance. Also, the Croats didn't really invade anybody; Yugoslavia was already a country (ruled by a king) after World War I with the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires, and then the Nazis rolled in and took everything over all the way down to the Greek Isles. So the Nazis didn't conquer Slovenia, Croatia, and then Serbia one by one. They conquered Yugoslavia.

Therefore, the Croatian people were not implicated as a nation as the Germans and Italians were (it should be noted that there was fierce Italian resistance to the fascists as well) because at the time they were an ethnic group within a larger country rather than a country of their own like they are now. That said, of all the Balkan countries today, Croatia is perhaps the most right wing and nationalistic. Also, the Balkans have always garnered little attention when compared to the big Western European nations. To this day it's one of those regions that Americans and many Western Europeans know very little about. Ever heard of Montenegro? Macedonia? Well, I'm sure you've heard of Belgium.

Some see it as an aberration of modernity. Before they built the death camps, they were massacring people the old fashioned way: one by one, on a face-to-face level. But there were just too many people to kill, and it would take its toll on the precious manpower devoted to the task. So they took direct inspiration from Henry Ford and built assembly lines of death. All that was supposed to be good about the late 19th and early 20th centuries was turned into the worst horror of living memory.

Exactly. It's just like folks who are morally opposed to hunting deriding those who do it for using a gun to kill "defenseless" prey. Truth is a gun doesn't make a person any better at hunting, it just helps with the kill.

I seem to be having trouble watching videos from the links provided, so I found another site that has them.

I don't feel like watching all 6 videos, three was more than enough.

Human behavior. You know like singing, dancing, brushing your teeth, killing babies, dropping bombs, massacres, genocide, stuff like that. The unique thing about the Holocaust was its industrial efficiency that hasn't yet been widely adapted. When your side is doing it, it usually gets a nice name like Manifest Destiny and such like.
