So i was getting all kinds of hoax emails from paypall LOOKING addresses, saying new addresses had been added to my account, please confirm and supply info blah blah blah. Well I figured...I'm just tired of it. I'm tired of associated with paypal period. it's not worth all the spam and hassle i get from being on paypal. plus i've read some not too savory articles about paypal and their business practices of late.

So I try to close my account out, should be the simplest thing in the world, but it isn't...i have to go through all this red tape and the REAL paypal won't let me access my account to close it unless i give them MORE personal information. Fuck that shit. So i'm completely fed up and send them the following email:

(yes it's harsh...yes it's bitchy...if you are going to say. "wow zoe, that's extreme" don't bother, as I realize this.)

***********

Form Message

customer subject: JUST READ THE FUCKING COMMENTS

customer message: error: 'JUST LET ME ASK MY GODDAMN QUESTION. Stop with

the illigitimate prompts. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!

Here is the problem. I wish to cancel my paypal account. I don't want it

to exist anymore. I don't want any of my information on your site. I WANT

NO MORE PAYPAL.

Here is my problem. I try to log in to my account to cancel my account, but

you all won't even allow me to ACCESS my account fully until I VERIFY it

with even MORE bank account information. FUCK THAT.

I'm not giving you people ANY MORE INFORMATION. I WANT THE ACCOUNT CLOSED!

NOW!'

What type of computer are you using?: 'Other'

If other, please specify: 'NOT YOUR BUSINESS, CANCEL MY ACCOUNT.'

What program do you use to browse the internet?: 'Other'

If other, please specify: 'LINUX'

************

So then they reply and they tell me how to bypass it etc. then they whine about my abusive language and say if i ever use profanity with them again, they won't help me anymore. So I sent them another email. This one more succinct:

***********

FUCK YOU!

=) and thank you.

bahahahhaa...you're hot.

Somehow, these scammers have bots that scan ebay for membernames and emails, and pretty much 80% of ebayers (buyers and sellers) have paypal accounts. They do the same with ebay scam-spammers. Fortunately, I use a Yahoo! email account for my ebay/paypal account, and they niftily throw all the scam-spam into my bulk folder -- it rarely makes it into my email inbox.

The one way you can ALWAYS tell if its a scam email from either ebay or paypal is if they are asking you to hurry up and sign into ebay/paypal using THEIR links for whatever reason. The hint is to put your cursor over the link that directs to their site, and generally, you'll see on your browser thingee that those email links will direct you to someplace other than ebay or paypal. Don't fall for links that just have ebay or paypal in the webaddress, either (ex: I've seen some like this: http://sdlfjdkjsio.com/wwwebaycom/index.htm) . . . it would have to say ebay.com or paypal.com after the "http"

Well, there's another way as well: ebay/paypal NEVER asks you to sign in or type in your SN/password directly through email . . . these emails are ALWAYS a hoax.

If you ever think your ebay/paypal account might need your attention, open a separate webbrowser and go to the site yourself -- don't follow ANY links.

I love my British email service; all the email that I haven't personally allowed in ends up in a separate list, so I can easily delete it all. Though I'll forward the bad PayPals to spoof@paypal.com, so they can deal with it. Shit, it's not hard to figure out; almost all spam I've ever seen always has some misspelled words, bad grammar, or, as noted, wants you to log in immediately to "verify your account." Ri-ight.

I've sent my share of abusive e-mails to PayPal too - once they had my bank account info they required that that be my default method of payment, I wanted the default to be a Visa, and they would not allow me to change it. WTF, it's my account, let me set it up the way I want, but no, if I'm paying for something with PayPal I have to change the default and then click past a 'are you sure you want to change your method of payment?' screen. Bastards.

My issue with PayPal is that they've set themselves up as moral police on eBay.

You can't use PayPal to buy or sell "mature" material on eBay. eBay already has fairly strict rules about what type of material can be sold there, so it's not like PayPal could be used by someone to pay for child porn anyway.

I got a hoax email too and stupidly typed in my PayPal password. Then the next screen had the word "maintenance" misspelled and it also said "we apologize for any incontinence we may cause you." Exactly, the phishers were pissing into my account. I cancelled PayPal and changed my passwords on all other internet accounts. Then I opened a new Paypal account. The only thing I use it for is to contribute to this site!

Luckily, I was able to figure out what it was the first time I got one -- it really scared me at first -- I was wondering why in the hell would ebay want to cancel my account?

I haven't had any trouble with paypal, though -- I've bought and sold using it, and I really like it. I've been able to change my credit card info, too -- but I do have a premium account (sellers), so I'm not sure if that made the difference.
