Cerise
Upon being asked in July whether or not is was hot up here in Canada.... There is heat here There is heat here though the stubborn set of our winter guests may boast otherwise. There is a scorch of pavement, the waver of brick and dust in a sun baked street. There are arms reddened to a dangerous rose colour, white shirt straps mapping the lines of modesty. There are pale sunblock splotches flowering across a browned back, the fevered hum of cities reduced to a writhing insectian hive wings flashing iridescent in the weighted air – oh yes, there is heat here. A collective melting of bodies that plunge into lakes and rivers immersing themselves deeply feeling fingers scrape the cool mud trying to find the place where water becomes ice.
