Job Panic

Okay so I've been in this temporary position for about 6 months now...three months longer than I had anticipated. The woman that I've covered for has recovered and is coming back in three weeks. I've already started the job search but I just need to vent my anxiety for a moment. I cannot afford to be out of work for even a day. I'll be stockpiling everything from my last paychecks after I pay bills just in case.

Last year, I was out of work for two months and it wreaked havoc on my life. The problem is that I am over qualified for many positions that would otherwise be easily obtainable. I've had several potential employers tell me that I am over qualified and this has resulted in me lying about my education. I've an Associates degree, a Bachelor, and a Masters. I am not above lying about my education to pay for bills. Most people think I'm stupid anyway since I'm quiet. However, I do not want to end up fliping burgers at McDo's or delivering pizza or shit. I'm scared.

What type of job do you do or want to do? Just curious.

Something that lets me work relatively independently. However, I know those jobs are few and far between. I don't know.

What's your skill set? Someone here might have a connection or idea?

I'm working on figuring that one out. I've done plenty of customer service, telecommunications work with cell phones, retail, etc. I'm reading What Color is Your Parachute again. It's a good resource book for job hunters-I've used it before to help me pinpoint jobs that are beneficial to me. I also just found out that I've been accepted in an ALA accredited Library Science program so that opens up all kinds of doors for me.

P.S. Ya'll okay up there? I saw on the news that some tornados touched down in Dallas but not sure which part...

They missed us. Heavy storms went through our area, but the tornadoes touched down east/south of us. Thanks for asking :)

Any temporary agencies in your area? Whenever I was between jobs, I did temp work (Clerical, proofreading, and data entry). They don't pay a whole lot, but it's better than McDonald's or Wal-mart, and the temp jobs kept me fully occupied until the next real job came along.

I'm working for this company via a temp agency. Once I tell the company, hopefully they will send me on to another job.

If you have good typing and spelling, and an ear and eye for proper grammar, may I suggest a transcription job? You may have to work to a daily quota, but essentially it's just you, a computer and some manner of playback system. Once you get into the groove and let the words just flow from the voice to your fingers, the day flies by.

You may have to learn a specialist vocabulary, but won't necessarily have to go to school for it. (I learned on the job; it took about 2 weeks to get up to speed.)

I'm probably going to do that depending on the work. I've three degrees of varying levels.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be looking for those sorts of jobs in my area.

I think you can file for unemployment if you end up out of work. Might look into that if push comes to shove...

Okay, so the job situation isn't as bad as I thought. My boss talked to the temp agency and highly recommended me. I've sent them an upadted resume and they are gonna try to get me to some interviews soon. I've got an interview next Tuesday for another temp position. Next Friday I'll take the Civil Service test. I think after work I'll visit a libary and find out how to get hired on there. I'll put in an app for the Student Librarian Position with my local parish (think county) which allows me to work as a librarian while getting my education. So all in all, I think things will work out. My BF has told me not to worry either.

@ Mike D I don't think I qualify since technically I'll still be hired by the temp agency. However if worse comes to worse, I'll deliver pizza again or something like that.
