It was cathartic and it felt like the final weight being lifted. Cast of characters: Jason Blue - Me. Feel free to friend me if you like at http://www.facebook.com/jason.blue Karen - My xian sister-in-law (married to my brother Chad) who does (did) not know of my de-conversion Lisa - Former church friend who just started interacting with me in the last few days on FB based on a previous post that did not sit well with her. I took mercy on her in that post instead of easily destroying her arguments. She took part of my merciful quote from that post and tried to use it against me in this one. Oye! Daniel - Atheist friend who made a commercial for my former church a few years ago, so he is very familiar with the leadership of the church. Several people from the church, especially the leaders, have met him and are friends with him on facebook. None of us knew he was an atheist at the time. Matt - Atheist friend...you may recognize him Veronica - Former church friend who I unfortunately influenced significantly toward xianity Chad - My xian brother who does (did) not know of my de-conversion Jeff - Former church leader that did not initiate a single contact with us when we left (before or after we de-converted) Heidi - My xian sister who I told about my deconversion about a month ago Andy - Former church friend (Veronica's husband) David - Atheist friend...you may recognize him All in all...My family and atheist friends were very supportive. My former church members were half clueless (Lisa/Jeff) and half clueless/supportive (Veronica/Andy). My adult niece saw the tread and PMed me about it. I think it's just too scary for them to consider the alternative--that they may actually be incorrect in their beliefs. It takes courage to examine one's beliefs seriously. You are simply living proof that something is awry in Christianity. I think they would like to remain clueless, because then they are not accountable..... I was happy with the support from my family. Although they don't know exactly about my de-conversion (except for Heide), I think they could read enough between the lines.
