My neighbour across the road is a 7th day Adventist who doesn't go to church, swears and doesn't judge gays. She's the best example of a Christian I've ever seen, she always has people who have nowhere to go living at her house, she has her almost 30 year old adopted son living with her, and her and her husband are always helping everyone. If it weren't for them I wouldn't have a motorcycle, they loaned me the money to buy it. Well said and you do meet people like that occasionally. Most christians are out to help themselves: my asshole aunt and uncle (I know I keep bringing this up). My aunt calls my mom 6 to 8 months ago telling her they are hurting and them my uncle finally gets a new job at 64 making serious bucks. they upgrade homes, buy a new car and wear designer clothes now. They are only "into" their religion because they have been told to be... and according to (what I know of) the theories of Alice Miller, such authoritarians never develop an authentic personality of their own. They hold onto the concept that they are actually "christian" but have no idead what that really is. They behave horrificly and claim it is in the name of god. "Religion" is the glue that keeps them all together as a unifying group. If they identify as a political party only they can't claim all the alleged good deeds they do and blame a higher power to telling them what the rules are. Religion is just an excuse for them not a way of life. As you know, people who actually read and understand the bible no longer believe in xianity. They are not reading or researching their own "values". They are just using the religion as a smokescreen. Here in the US it's really easy to do since we are not allowed to make laws against religion. Best loophole on earth. But you are quite correct in your thinking Joe. Few people on either side (if any at all) are really contemplating the official debate topics. I really took offense to it: Anyone whoever worked and paid one cent in taxes deserves foodstamps if they need them. Anyone who is hungry should be allowed to have them--after all, isn't America the land of 'milk and honey,' blessings of god 'pressed down and over flowing?' That should translate to enough food for anyone who needs it. I ate out of garbage cans for a few years when younger and the govt. gave me $10 fucking dollars worth of food stamps to eat every MONTH. I could barely pay rent so I wouldn't freeze to death in the winter, a one room apartment. Then I see shit like this graphic about food stamps and it hit a really raw nerve. I worked and could not afford food but the govt. still kept taking my taxes and let me starve for my service to my country. I couldn't even get help from Salvation Army who rings their fucking bells every Christmas in my face for a donation. Local churches never helped but many ministers or their door goons, er uhm deacons, told me many times to get a job, which I already had. The VA was no help, and no help from DAV, of which I have always been a life member! Christians talk a lot of shit and feed their faces with chicken to support some wealthy asshole who donates to organizations against same-sex couples and runs his franchise like it's a prayer breakfast. Christians will argue about someone who is unpopular and they claim they preach the 'Real Jesus'.
