Where do these beliefs that something that is fantasy(like say, a certain franchise) is form the devil? Brainwashing? Lack of research and understanding? To scare people? This is something that I've been questioning recently and I'd like some input. 1) Brainwashing? Yes, often religious indoctrination is a source of believing that fantasy is real. It usually starts in childhood, by parents, other kin and other adults. It can continue into the teenage years. All of this is before the person's brain has developed enough to "think for itself". Indeed, the indoctrination usually includes some version of "don't think for yourself - you are not worthy of thinking for yourself - just repeat after me the following religious fantasies". 2) To scare people? Yes, many religions cultivate, encourage and tend the natural fears that we all have. They do this by injecting superstition, mythology and dogma into your fear. Afraid of the dark? Yes, the devil lives in the dark and, if you don't worship my particular sky fairy, the devil will take you away. 3) Lack of research and understanding? Likely, if the research and understanding is based on rational thinking. I remember that uproar. They're trying to subliminally brainwash us into believing evolution by having these little monsters "evolve." And it was such a BIG deal that the guy created them from dreams, like his dreams had been influenced by the devil or something. Just means the guy was super creative and probably in touch with his inner child. I loved me some Pikachu and Raichu! My mom used to have so many fits about anime. It didn't bother me but it sure burned my brother up. I mean, I think about it now and it's pretty hilarious. My brother asking me not to tell Mom he was watching Dragonball Z. Ghost movies are bad because somewhere in an obscure corner of the bible that only a pastor would know, it says ghosts don't exist. The Grudge contradicts the bible. Even though Edward and Bella never have sex before marriage, Twilight is ungodly because they do make out quite a bit, and the bible never confirmed that god did create vampires. Also, Bella is so obsessed with him that he must have become a kind of idol. I hate it when Xians analyze whether sparkly vampires might possibly harm teenage girls' walk with gawd. They're paranoid--most Edward-crazy girls will be over it by the time they're 25. Xians have to worry that most things could be unholy because if they don't, they might sin.
