What's Up With These Forum Names?

"The Lion's Den," "The Colosseum," The Arena" --- these are all places where Christians were persecuted and/or put to death for being criminals of the state---as perceived by the Romans.

Just curious: Are we persecuting Christians here?

Or, according to later martyrological literature, it is also the place where Christians "won" there eternal life! And according to some texts, Revelation, the only way to "win" eternal life! So, in this light, maybe these are places where Christians can vindicate themselves!?

Some definitely enjoy persecuting Christians here... but it really isn't meant in that way. ;)

You might be looking into things a bit too much or taking things a bit too seriously. Unlike what Christians and other religions have done to those they disagree with in the past, we don't actually resort to torture, execution, crucifixion and the like on these forums.

I think it's meant tongue-in-cheek. The site is primarily to support ex-christians, but there needs to be places for debate as well.

I, for one, have learned much through debate with christians here, mostly about myself.  ;)

It's mostly that the christians here enjoy torturing US -- with their lack of logic. Although of course they prefer to believe they're "saving" us from their god's eternal wrath.

As to the forum names -- I agree, it's tongue-in-cheek. But let's also not forget that a) the persecution of christians was never as widespread or as long-enduring as their own mythology would have it and b ) very shortly after the christians became first tolerated, then sanctioned, they set about "doing unto others" -- in centuries of bloodshed.

So the forum names are kind of a bitter joke.

Mainly these three forums are the only spots on this website where Christians are allowed to preach Christianity.

The Lion's Den, the Coliseum, and the Arena. Where Christians put up or shut up.

No one is throwing any Christians to the lions here, but if they jump in on their own, they are as protected in these forums as they were in Roman times by their God, so what's the big deal? God is in control, right? All things work together for His glory, right?

Welcome, srd44.  No Christian ever "won" their "eternal life" by dying. They received it by what they believed while living.

This is a forum on the internet, and while I get what you are saying, sometimes Christians do come here to have the life of Christ Himself beat out of them.

If True Christians want to feel vindicated, they would invite their Pastors to venture in first, to make sure that the field is fit for the flock.

Do you have alternative monikers to recommend?

(The beer and hot dogs in the Colosseum and Arena are way overpriced, if you ask me.)

That's succinct! I realize the names are just tongue-and-check, but I thought it was a bit interesting.....

I had to stop and ponder it for a minute.

The Lion's Den: Where Christians come to waste their breath.

I have thought it strange that the Sex forum is pass word protected. Christianity has demonized sex and probably has done incalculable damage to untold numbers of believers. Since that is a known fact I find it odd that the topic of sex should be pass word protected as though it is a forbidden topic on an Ex-Christian support site.

It should, IMO, just be another topic among many other topics dealing with the trauma and healing that comes with de-conversion. Sex isn’t dirty, nasty, and it certainly ain’t a sin. So, why is that forum pass word protected and only accessible to members who are logged in?  Not complaining, just curious.

We usually have a few minor children lurking around here, and the sex forum can get pretty X-Rated.

They told me its to keep it off the search engines. Just think about the christians go nuts to find threads where people talk openly about sex...accusing ExC for spreading pornography...
