Voice
I found this movie by accident, an animated feature that appears to be the creation story according to Buddhism. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVFChOcPFWs It looks like science fiction to me, space aliens, Atlantis, all kinds of stuff that doesn't agree with natural evidence. Are there really space aliens in the Buddhist creation story? Does it say humans populated Venus before populating Earth? I'm not sure I have as much respect for Buddhism now after seeing this. Deva
It isn't Buddhism. I did a couple of searches and it is linked with something called "Happy Science". See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Science Anytime you have some teaching about "God" and "creation" it is likely not to be Buddhism. The Dharma is really not concerned with such questions. This is a New Age type religion which claims to channel Buddha. Very, very different from the Buddhadharma. Voice
Thanks, Deva, I wondered. It was confusing because it seemed like they were trying so hard to be correct with names and dates and stuff.
Deva
Yes, I can see where it would be misleading. Although Buddhism certainly has a history, this idea of historical accuracy really is not as much of a concern with Buddhism as it is with Christianity. You can certainly be suspicious when you hear a bunch of specific dates being assigned and, as I said, talk about God and creation. That is a pretty good indication it isn't any part of the schools of Buddhism such as Theravada, Mahayana or Vajrayana. The emphasis is on your mind and practice today, not on history.
