Woodsy
Hi everyone! I'm interested in finding information on the secular origins of this holiday. I know the religious ones too well, unfortunately. TIA.
FreeThinkerNZ
Well, I went to Wikipedia, as often its pages include secular perspectives but, of course, not the xmas page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas#History The xians have had their way with it, and imagine trying to get secular changes to stick there would be like trying to rake water uphill. However, the page does reference a few of the non-xian traditions that you could look into further, such as Saturnalia, Yule, and Winter Solstice. Hopefully others with more information will see this thread and contribute more than I can.

Raking water uphill is a good way of putting it.
