A woman celebrating her wedding anniversary while her husband was away

for work won a $4,336,288 progressive slot jackpot at Harrah's New

Orleans Casino Friday evening, according to a press release cited by

casinocitytimes.com.

Geraldine C. Armstrong, a 57-year-old secretary, was returning home

from church when, as she put it, "divine providence" directed her to

stop at Harrah's.

"God certainly had something to do with it," a still-stunned Armstrong

stated with conviction. "The exit for Harrah's was right there and He

told me to 'go have fun.'"

Armstrong had wagered $70 on the Wheel of Fortune machine and was in

the process of playing out her last credits when she hit the statewide

progressive MegaJackpots prize. She had $4 remaining on the machine at

the time of her win.

"The feeling is indescribable," Armstrong stated wide-eyed after

Louisiana State Police and IGT technicians verified the win.

"Fantastic!"

While still not 100 percent sure how she will spend her windfall,

Armstrong said she would use the money to help her 82-year-old mother,

who suffers from Parkinson's disease, and provide for her granddaughter

and three grandsons.

"I can make a lot of plans and help a lot of people," Armstrong said

thoughtfully before departing from Harrah's about midnight. She added,

"I just know God is good and we'll just figure it out together. He'll

guide me where I need to go."

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Christians think god is responsible for EVERYTHING, good and bad.

Every victory, promotion, healed ailment or benefit of ANY sort is quickly attributed to god/Jesus. They do this because they think if they fail to show gratefulness, then their benefactor will get angry and take it all away again. :twitch::loser:

Christians are the very personification of Crazy and should be locked away in mental institutions.

They are giving credit where it is due.

Also, the reason why they thank God rather than the doctors is because God was working THROUGH the doctors.

:lmao: Oh wait...you're serious, aren't you? :twitch::eek: Please tell me you're joking.

Why in hell does "God" need to "work through doctors" to heal someone? Is god into outsourcing his miracles these days? Running low on Holy Ghost juice? Please tell me you are NOT this stupid to believe such drivel. You don't even have the Bible to back up your claims. NOWHERE do we read of god requiring heathens to perform "his" miracles. Only prophets and apostles and prayer.

Don't be ridiculous. Just because you Christians can't perform any miracles, that is no excuse to begin inventing new theology to explain your lack of ability. If the shit isn't real, simply admit it. Don't lie.

"God working through the doctors". What a fucking insult to the PEOPLE who study and train and labor and PAY to provide YOU with healthcare! I've got more respect for Christian Scientists, for at least they BELIEVE that God is able to heal WITHOUT man's help. They are wrong, of course, but at least they DO have the requisite FAITH to live out their lives. Unlike the rest of you compromising Christians.

*mindless drivel*

Maybe the "divine providence" was just her own need to gamble. Or maybe it was just gas.

"God certainly had something to do with it," a still-stunned Armstrong

stated with conviction. "The exit for Harrah's was right there and He

told me to 'go have fun.'"

*sounding like a preacher* And gawd told me walk into that strip club and go have "fun". He also told me to bring him a hot chick or two. Praise jeebus.

:lmao::lmao:

*more mindless*

Well at least shes using it for something good.

Maybe gawd will show her where to really go...psych ward.

Precisely - I used to think that way, also. If I didn't thank Gawd for everything that happened to me, Gawd would get cranky and be an indian giver and take everything away. Funny, then shouldn't Xianity be teaching people to not thank Gawd for their sufferings, since the logic ought to follow that he'll take the sufferings away if not properly thanked for them?

I hate this concept with a passion. When all the proof exists that you and you alone are responsible for something happening, the Xian will still choose to kiss Jesus'™ ass for it. Talk about living in fear and ignorance. Just because you "feel" like some god led you somewhere doesn't mean it really happened - feelings can be inaccurate. Emotions are not the same as critical thinking and logic, but don't try to tell a Xian that.

Just cut the crap, Xians. Grow up and take responsibility already. :vent:

...hopefully he is being sarcastic here. Loved the "outsourcing miracles" bit Grinch! :lmao:

I find it ironic that even my retired S.Baptist minister dad would die laughing at the thought of a woman calling her casino winnings "God's will!" He would see this story about on the same level as a woman getting the clap thanking God instead of the penicillin...

funny how different denominations have such different ideas about what is considered sin. I'd almost be willing to bet that the woman is some flavor of fundie & she might be trying to give god credit in order to hide from the fact she was "sinning" by winning in the first place; the only way out is to say that god "wanted" her to win, and the gambling was just "god's vehicle" for her to do it. Churches have been doing this sort of thing to justify poor actions for centuries on end.

I see it as just avoiding responsibility for the good as well as the bad.

I couldn't agree more, greasemonkey.

In fact, Dr. James Dobson, leader of Focus on the Family, and self-appointed champion of Christian virtues, has been on a crusade to rid America of GAMBLING! Dobson says gambling is a sin against the providence of god, yadda yadda yadda.

And Dobson isn't alone in this thinking. For decades Christians have preached against the sin of gambling/riches, and yet we're supposed to believe in god's bounty when a Christian hits a jackpot?

You fucking Christians need to make up your minds! Is money good or evil?

I suppose money is only a "sin" in the hands of unbelievers. It's all good when god gives it to "his" selfish children. How fucking retarded. :loser:

I laughed myself silly when old Ralph Reed got caught up in the Abramoff net... heheheh Dobson finds out he's using gambling money to pay for thier anti-gambling campaigns which happen to be cleverly targeted at Abramoffs enemies, not at gambling as a whole. It's time to start playing the "justification game!"

good thing they have us evil athiests as thier enemies; they'd decimate each other if we ever got out of the picture. Most of the crap that folks like Dobson rail against end up forgotten 30 years down the road. Face it, the Dobson type is the same type who were against freeing the slaves, womens suffrage, ending prohibition etc. etc. (hell, I'm old enough to remember when they were using the same rhetoric about interracial as they use for gay marriage now!) They promise never to give a single inch, then make a few feeble cries about persecution when the SCOTUS bonks them on the head with the law, then sweep it under the rug & move on to the next sin. I'm pretty sure the reverse might be true as well; who really thinks that if we concede on the gay marriage issue that the Dobson's & Fallwell's will actually STOP there?! If they could manage to push gays back in the closet, I would bet almost any amount they would eventually start moving towards co-habitating couples & divorce.

scary thought

She should give credit where it is due. Why hasn't she given thanks to the one true god?

The Invisible Pink Unicorn. She better hurry and publicly thank the IPU. Don't make

him angry, she won't like him when he's angry. Repent! For in the last days, at the last

trumpet, the mighty IPU will send out the Keebler Elves. Who will go forth through

all creation weeding out evildoers. They will turn all evildoers into yummy chocolate chip

cookies for we the faithful to enjoy for all eternity. Lo verily. :thanks:

So where are the stories about the other 99.99% of people God instructs to gamble on whatever, but end up losing?? Those are so common they don't make the news.

As for "working through doctors", that is a very ignorant stance. Does Satan work through doctors when someone dies or doesn't get healed? Why do doctors spend lots of time and money to LEARN their craft if God is the one doing the healing?? Is God so weak and stupid that he needs help from medical institutions and the non-believers they produce? If I had a God, I'd want Him to be able to heal on his own. Yours sucks.

Best bet is newsbite posted this as a troll. Looks like Grinch took the bait.

But I have heard fundies claim god works through doctors, computer techs, automechanics, the list goes on.

Maybe it's like outsourcing IT to India? Train'em up and turn 'em loose...

LOL this is about the most ludicrous thing I've read in a long time. A woman claiming that God told her to gamble. She plopped down $70.00 to see if God was right. What an idiot. The only pity here is the fact that she won -- so now she can tell all her little xian friends how she won the lottery because of God. So when did God start doing cheap parlor tricks... Where was this God when I was an xian back in the day... way back in the day....

Man have I missed out or what? I think I'll go back to church.......... on second thought, the church might burst into flames if I walked in the doors -- so maybe I'd better not -- just to be safe....

Don't want to mess up my good cloak.

I'm going to start working through doctors. And engineers, and pilots, and firemen, and scientists, and world leaders. Since I can't manifest myself everywhere at the same time, I'll do it this way. From now on anything they do that is smart or good really came from me. Don't blame me for the mistakes or evil they do, I'm only going to do good and perfect things through them. They don't even have to ask for help or believe in me-- I am that powerful!

If it works out, I'll add more professions to my list.

If a Muslim said that because their shoelaces were untied and they tripped and found a quarter as a result, Allah must have helped them do it, would you believe him? Or if someone missed an airplane and it crashed later, and said that it *must* have been Buddha inspiring him not to go, would you believe her?

Why is it that in Western culture, it's always the Judeo Christian god? And how do you know it's god and not a fairy, or a leprechaun, or an alien, or the Invisible Pink Unicorn?

This is one of my greatest pet peeves when it comes to Christianity. Everyone blindly believes that these coincidences must be god without any proof whatsoever. When are people going to learn how to think for themselves and stop this type of magical thinking?

Haha, goes to show how some people are totally incapable of thinking logically and rationally. Of course if something good happens "God did it". Like when I think 11 of the miners died in that accident, and 1 lived, people claimed, "God saved that guy's life", if that's the case, this "god" fellow condemned 11 miners to die, is that fair or just?
