Jon Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 I will admit from outset,i know very little about this, except the light seemed to notice when it was watched,is this true on any level?
sdelsolray Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I suggest you consult with a physicist if you are looking for an explanation of or thoughts about the 2-slit experiment. Any particular atheist, wouldn't necessarily have much to say about it, know much about it or care much about it. The same would be true for any particular biologist, historian, theist or fast food worker. Fortunately, you can access many website pages which will provide quality information about the 2-slit experiment. Of course, some of those webpages may contain nonsense. You just have to determine the distinguish between accurate information and nonsense.
RogueScholar Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Jon, particles don't "notice" being "watched." Unfortunately, we do folks a great disservice when oversimplifying processes with language that is marginally accurate in a qualitative sense let alone anything a bit more quantitatively robust. When we make "observations" of systems this small, we need to interact with those systems using high energy light and other techniques that may use electromagnetic fields. It is this interaction with the system that causes a change in the results. There's no "magic," it's simply do to the fact that to "see" the electron, we need to interact with it and said interaction changes the outcome. 1
Thurisaz Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Yes the particles behave in a puzzling way. Proper science does not deny this. But "we don't know why" is not an argument pointing toward any particular direction. Does the christian god guide those particles? Technically possible. The same is possible for any other deity humanity has come up with, and for any imaginary higher force too. So... if you should want to use this puzzling behavior as argument for or against anything, better be careful.
☆ pantheory ☆ Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I have written a lot about the double slit experiment of its various constructions. Young's model and experiment is the oldest and simplest. For those not familiar with this result, use any search engine to find the explanations and results for the double-slit experiment. In all of my extensive scientific writings all of reality can be simply explained. The mathematics is not simpler because math accordingly is just a close attempt, a constructed analog to enable the modeling of reality so that more exact predictions can be made, space ships can be sent, etc. But IMHO the double slit experiment is one of the simplest examples of scientific misinterpretation, that when properly explained can be very simply understood by most anyone . It has been accepted in today's Physics that light is both a particle and a wave. The problem with present understandings is that waves accordingly are pure energy separate from the photons within them. Instead if light (EM radiation) is a physical wave, as De Broglie and countless others have proposed, understanding become easy. When both slits are open the same light wave goes through both slits and interferes with itself, the same as what would happen with water waves. This interference pattern of waves directs the photons in a sequential pattern. When only one slit is open the photon hits center around a single point on the detector screen. This IMHO is simple junior high school science concerning its understanding. It is only baffling when one has to accept that no wave medium exists, which is the current consensus since no medium as yet been acknowledged. IMO most anomalies in cosmology and physics can be very simply understood when the correct background knowledge is available to enable proper perspectives.
