Goodbye Jesus

Ugh Some People Are Annoying!

My husband had the a day from hell at work yesterday. This one guy that he normally gets along with, decided to be Mr. Ass and start a bunch of shit....running his mouth, etc, trying to get people mad just because he gets a kick out of it. He picks and picks and harasses to the point you just want to deck him. He does not know when to quit. My husband was listening to "Bad Religion" on his CD player and Mr. Ass started in how it was diablo music...turn it off....it is of the devil.... well, by this time, it was all my husband could tolerate and he bitched him out. (mind you, my hubby is VERY tolerant, so Mr. Ass really had to have been pushing him rather hard) Mr. Ass was saying to my husband, "You want to go to the office?" My husband was like, "Your feet aren't glued to the floor, let's go!" Mr. Ass just stood there. They never did go down there. (In all seriousness, my husband wanted to lay him out flat with his fist)

Today, (so far) things are quiet at work...but UGH I can not stand people like that!

It is rather difficult for me to label anything devil or satan because I do not believe in him, it, her, whatever the hell you want to call the devil. I believe that evil is born within the heart of the person that chooses to act that way or a mental illness (as far as people really doing horrible things to others). Evil, not as in xian standards, I am sure you all know what I mean.

I just wished people would grow up and shut up! Thanks for listening to my little rant, I am done for now... lol

When Christians think that evil is present, it provokes them to evil behavior.

I just think that most religious people (christians in particular) feel that they have god on their side and therefore everything they do is justified. Because everything they do, they do for their god. If they ever do something they think might be unfavorable, they just confess or repent and all is forgiven. It's an absolutely perfect bullshit scam. And it's also a very dangerous mindset to be in. I find that religious people generally do more harm than good. They judge people, harass them, annoy them, hurt them, or worse. How many times have you heard of christian fanatics keying cars, throwing bricks through windows, et cetera to people that do not share their same beliefs. I've also seen them ridicule or outcast people for not sharing similar beliefs.

Anyone watch the show Unanimous last night? Case and point.

Its fuckin assholes like that that make the world miserable. The devil/hell exists in ones heart and actions . Not some place that the fairytale Bible made up. Good luck!

I feel for your hubs... people like that can be pretty annoying.

I had a fundy guy at my work start ranting about a couple new apprentices who claimed to be Wiccan once upon a time. It was a pretty ugly scene at first, but I guess I have a talent for defusing those sorts of things (right up to the time I left, my boss often asked my advice on domestic conflicts within the shop).

I really felt more sorry for the fundy guy than the kids (if they were Wiccan, I'm a moose ...they just liked shock effect IMO), I took him outside and explained some of the roots of paganism. He had utterly equated it with devil worship; when I got him to start thinking about the primary religious affiliations before the time of christ & explained that although the new age stuff wasn't exactly the same, could he honestly make the conclusion that before christ that everyone was devil worshippers?! He calmed down. He still thought it was "evil," but he no longer made a scene about it at least.

People can sure be dicks. I think the religious intolerance mindset contributes greatly, but it is far from the only reason. I think most of it stems from the fact that some people can't even fathom the fact that other people believe differently than them...

I agree and would say it's even worse because many do not just "feel" god's on their side, they KNOW. I think it's this certainty that is a big part of the appeal of this mindset.

As my daddy used to say: "An asshole is an asshole is an asshole." Every race, creed and religion is going to produce assholes, just a part of life really. My problem with christianity is that it seems to give them a feeling of being justified in their asshole-ness.

:thanks:

That is so true. Even with people who aren't hardcore about Xianity, they just can't deal with the fact that another person from another religion has a different worldview than they do. Chalk it up to their religion and their religious instructors programming them to believe in the Jesus™ story, ie, that he came to convert everyone to his way of thinking because every other way sucks. Many Xians are aghast at someone else having a different religion because they think that said person will not have the same moral fabric as they do, or be as law-abiding as they are, or as nice as they are, etc etc - even if they do not have these qualities themselves. I know - I was like that myself, once upon a time, and it all stems from the fact that Xians are trained to believe their religion and its accompanying philosophy are the only source of morality and decency in the universe.

That's true. When I was younger, I was brainwashed to be like that, too. It was in college when I got to know people who were of different religions that I began to realize what I had been told wasn't true.

My boss has been treating me like the most irritating (with my incompetence and all) half-brained idiot - Stupidity Personified lately. Honest to God, there's nothing worse than when an "authority figure" starts treating you like shit and you just have to sit there and deal with it, rather than just throw the finger at them. Especially when you're 21, in a shitty economical situation, and waited and tried for months to get one single lousy job.

I wonder if it has anything to do with my wearing my Indian Goddess/Buddha/Bodhisattva pendant lately. I mean, we do have the largest National Alliance adherants and more Bible study groups than any other county next to St. Louis County......at least it seems that way.

(Jefferson County, where I live, is on the border fringes of civilization. We have, let's see, a Wal-Mart, a post office, a couple of Chinese restaurants, Joyce Meyers's compound, fast-food chain restaurants, three "adult" stores, more Pentecostals/Assemblies of God/Methodists/CoC and by God, more Baptists than you can shake a stick at [with a Church of the Nazarene and Foursquare Gospel for variety], an elementary school, and rotting rusty trailers mixed in with mass-produced plastic-and-vinyl houses for the cheap American suburban bourgeois families as far as the eye can see, and that's about it. No malls, no movie theaters, no local business, no alternative religions or organizations.....but of course, all the porn you want.)

St. Louis is actually about a half-hour away. Too far. I don't need to be surrounded by semi-rural slackjaw yokels and self-righteous soccer moms with brain-function problems.

I know all about annoying people. I sat in front of most of them during High School. I'd be halfway slumped over my desk, doodling something when they start kicking the back of my seat or shouting to their "homies" or something else equally ridiculous. And I'd stare down at the pen in my hand, visualizing what it would look like if I stabbed them in the eye with it.

Then I realized that that was probably a bad path to go down. So, during the ten minute free-write, I'd create a story about them getting their head torn off by something. And when it came time to read our work to the class, I would.

I didn't have many friends.

Hey, Sage, I've been a witness to stuff like that and absolutely hate it. I've never had children, by choice, but I seem to have a "momma-bear" in me that doesn't like it when co-workers and/or friends get mistreated.

I have a suggestion, instead of wearing your Indian/Buddha pendant, start wearing a cross instead and see what happens.

As an English teacher, I am delighted to see someone with the linguistic savoir-faire to correctly use the word "asshole-ness". I am so annoyed when I see "assholity", "assholicity", "assholaciousness", "assholedom", or some other silly, desperate construct in place of the most clear, concise, and aethetically appealing nominative for the state or condition of being an asshole.

"Asshole-ness", with or without the hyphen (I'm not some picky nutjob, ya know), is clearly the way to go. Kudos to you, Skankboy!
