Goodbye Jesus

If you were God for a day......

I think most religious people are basically good people.

So, keeping it to Earth, let's say that for one day you are God, and you can do anything.

You can cure cancer and other diseases and things that adversely affect and kill so many people.

You can cure infant mortality where some 20,000 babies and children suffer and die every single day.

You can give people good physical and mental health well into old age.

You can rid the world of dependency on any drugs.

You can rid the world of evil tyrants in North Korea, China, Russia, Africa, etc.

You can give everyone a good dose of empathy and "conscience" and virtually wipe out all crime.

You could make sure everyone gets enough to eat and fresh water to drink.

You could end global warming, volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.

And so on.

And tomorrow it would be like heaven on Earth.

So You would then ask, why does God not do all these things?

Freewill is not throwing your kids out of your house and telling them if they get run over, raped by a pedophile, or starve, it is their fault.

Where is our absent parent?

Appear in person.

Distribute a new bible with self help advice.

Tell people not to bother worshiping me since I'll be gone in 24 hours.

Tell people the best thing they can do is help themselves and not rely on Gods.

Tell everyone to love their neighbor as themselves.  And if they don't, i'll send them to Hell.  😁

If God existed, as Christians claim he does: all-powerful, etc., he could be the superhero everyone longs for.

Damn.  This thread really demonstrates that our ways are not god's ways...

"I am" god right now as it stands, and so is the rest of the lot mentioned, and the earth, and the universe......

If I were God for a day I'd do this.

Change the human race so that we are all empathically connected to one another on a deep and intimate level.

The only piece of social engineering other than this would be to install a kind of empathic 'filter' into each person.

That way love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control could be shared between anyone and everyone.

But emotions like hatred, discord, jealousy, rage, selfishness, envy could not, staying only within the minds of those feeling those things.

Anyone spot what I've just done here?

;)

Walter.

I'd start by apologizing profusely to humanity for my absence/incompetence.

     Which god am I?

Maybe I just make plants grow if people give me a decent sacrifice otherwise the plants don't do so well this season.  Better be nice to me during my one day as plant god.

Or something to do with rain?  Or maybe fertility?  They're all sort of related.  Be nice to me to get what you want otherwise things may not go your way.  Or maybe they will?  I'm a god after all so this sort of randomness is built-in to my job.

I won't actually do anything helpful that's measurable in any way.  I'm a god after all.

Now, if I'm an all-powerful, all-knowing, useful god then I'll have to defer my answer until I actually become one of those because I have no idea at this point.  Off the cuff I would think we need more resources including more planets.  So, like Star Trek.  More planets and places for humans.  Replicators.  Holodecks.  Health care.  Tech that can remove a lot of the toil and disparity of being human and, hopefully, allow us to focus on other, perhaps more creative, aspects of living.
