Why make Jesus a martyr?

It is said that the Jewish elders wanted Jesus dead.

 

How little power they must have had if they could not just discredit Jesus as he flaunted the laws Jews live by, as he was obviously not the Messiah because the bastard had no Jewish father and no mighty army.

 

In their position in society, they would have known the good and bad and very bad.

 

If they had Jesus executed, they risked him being made a martyr. Far better to pay a killer a little money to slip a knife in Jesus in a crowd.

 

Or even to pay some children who would say that the unmarried Jesus raped them and let a mob kill him.
