DID SLY MASTERMINDS FABRICATE THE BIBLE AND USE IT TO BRAIN WASH HUMANITY??

This just occured to me recently.  The different versions of the "Bible", and those using it's myths, has been one of the most successful tools in the world for controlling people through fear.  We regulars here on the forum don't believe it is "God's" word, so how did it become such a powerful tool??   

 

The Old Testament Genesis story has some distinct similarities to centuries older Sumerian writings, with a very different twist, which became known as the doctrine of original sin.  This requires an omnipotent god to save us. That is the core of Abrahamic religions.  Did some bronze age sheep herders come up with this??  

 

And many centuries later along comes the story of a carpenters son who had some different ideas, and it gets tacked onto the Hebrew Bible, and becomes the worlds largest religion..  I don't believe it was an omnipotent god who made it happen, SO,  HOW DID IT HAPPEN??

 

I am developing my own ideas about how all this came about, but would like to hear the ideas of others.
