I come from a family of five, including one older sister and a younger brother, who also joined the Air Force after high school. Because we moved frequently we lived in a 12 x 60 foot trailer we had towed from place to place as needed and at the time “Jack and Jill” bedrooms were built at the back divided into two sections; one for my sister and me and one for my brother. There were bunk beds for my sister and me. And the remaining space in the room became what I eventually began to see as a prison cell, shared by my sister, the bane of my entire life. It's funny to try to remember my childhood as it was anything but happy. We moved too often to have long lasting friendships and being housed with my sister was hell. She had a narcissistic streak coupled with a strong sadistic streak and would constantly cause trouble for my brother and me, setting us up to be the ones who got yelled at instead of her. Eventually she settled into a tactic that seemed to satisfy her need for attention; games. She always wanted to be the Bestest at everything and learned winning was a way to be better. She played all sorts of games and got very good at them. Then she began to wheedle us siblings into constant game playing to prove her best-ness. When we started winning games, however, she learned how to cheat. Both my brother and I caught her on several occasions doing so but calling her out only made her deny it (she's too perfect to cheat!) and sulk. And then scheme to get even. Somewhere along the line she 'got Jesus' and since it made her 'BETTER', she pursued it with great relish, claiming her mantle and taking up such causes as pornography to prove it. Eventually, she took up abortion, dragged her children ((eventually 8 of them) along and protested at abortion clinics. It became her very Mission in Life and you know the rest about her 'cause'. Look what just happened in the U.S. House of Representatives. Handmaid's Tale, anybody? My sister would love to be Aunt Lydia! In all, I have the worst possible perspective on xtianity and have a right to do so. OH YEAH, btw, has anyone noticed the International House of Prayer in KC scandal? Head Toad of a multimillion dollar outfit charged with credible sexual assault? This follows several other allegations with different branches of the church franchise. Anyone know about this perfect xtian warrior? Thanks to the outbreak of war in Israel, it's the countdown to the end of the world, of course, so I expect her to start anew with her blunt instrument of xtianity to bash me over the head with. To complicate matters, my dad's brother just died, there's a funeral on the other side of the country and my sister is going to use it to try to manipulate my brother and I to her own benefit. I’ve been deconverted for around 10 years now and belonging to a group of fellow apostates and heathens in general means a lot to me. I’ve made some good friends here; maybe you will too! I don’t know if anybody here currently has a religious sister problem exactly, but we’re all familiar with the general experience. The only thing worse than a controlling, manipulative person is a controlling, manipulative person who is doing the will of God. At least you no longer have to share a 12 x 60 trailer with her! Still, funerals and family gatherings in general can be fraught in any case, so I understand your concern. The best advice I can give is to quietly but firmly refuse to be manipulated. It’s not her job to fix you and it’s not yours to fix her. I’m not suggesting you were trying to, but I guess I’m saying to ignore her as much as possible. Hopefully the worst is over...... but We'll see. I can't relate to the childhood with bad siblings. My middle brother may relate tho. I wasn't the best big brother and kick myself for it now. I've tried several times to kindle a better relationship with him with little to no success. I've discovered in the past year that we have a lot more in common as adults. I hope one day he can get past his feelings toward my younger self and we can have a relationship again. I was the oldest of 3 boys by 7 1/2 years. I was the product of my mothers first marriage and my brothers of her second. Thankfully the man she married after my sperm donor was a good man. He adopted me as his own and I've always been very grateful. Had a very stable childhood in a house they bought after they were married. He worked through the best years of the teamsters union with Yellow Freight. Most of my religious angst from others comes from my Ex and her family. I discovered last week that I am apparently the Devil. I overheard my exfather-in-law say it when I was talking to her on the phone. I didn't know I welded such power. I think I may ask God to let me try my father in laws faith like Job! Lmao Just Kidding. It's good to see you here and look forward to future posts. Curiously, even though I am angry with my sister she MAY have the same idea you have about reconciling with me. I don't trust her though and her indirect methods of trying to contact me are sneaky and suspicious. In that way, she hasn't changed a bit so chances she is sincere in her apparent desire to be friends is slim to none. But that said, just being here has actually caused me to feel less hostility toward her somehow. Could I be leaning toward........compassion?
