older
Here's an AP article about claims that the US is a Christian nation. The article cites a Pew survey that says 60 percent of Americans think the founders intended the US to be a Christian nation. https://apnews.com/article/america-christian-united-states-conservative-beliefs-9286431a0ddde91c928e5d411795c1fe
walterpthefirst
History is not decided by pew surveys or by consensus of opinion. Nor is it decided by faith or by feelings. It is decided by the evidence.

I would suggest perhaps Anglican or Congregational. Both of those have long histories in the UK, from which many of our ancestors came.
pantheory
yeah, As an atheist myself, I think it's OK to call the US a Christian country since polls show that the majority of Americans are Christians. In the 1950's (McCarthy era) we added "under god" to the pledge of allegiance, and "in god we trust" to some of our coins. Before that we didn't have it. Although we do have the separation of church and state in our constitution, the wordings are not clear and simple for all to understand. The country of Turkey has plainer and clearer wording in their constitution concerning the separation of church and state. Maybe ir's the best constitution in the world clearly explaining the separation of church and state. You can't wear anything religious on your person in public areas there, and can't preach religion in public either like can be done in the US. There are designated areas in the city to put down one's prayer rug for praying which some do several times a day. But they do have towers announcing prayer time several times a day from speaker towers in large cities.
