Amethyst Posted May 29, 2006 Share Posted May 29, 2006 Study: Sexual Desire is in Your Genes Your sexual desire or lack thereof could be in your genes, scientists announced today. The discovery might change how psychologists view sexuality. The researchers found that individual differences in human sexual desire can be attributed to genetic variations. The study is the first to provide data to show that common variations in the sequence of DNA impact on sexual desire, arousal and function, the researchers said. The scientists, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examined the DNA of 148 healthy male and female university students and compared the results with questionnaires asking for the students' self-descriptions of their sexual desire, arousal and sexual function. They found a correlation between variants in a gene called the D4 receptor and the students' self-reports on sexuality. The results suggest that low sexual desire might be a normal biological condition rather than a psychological problem, the researchers say. Further, it might be possible to develop drugs to alter sexual desire based on the new findings. The research was led by Richard Ebstein and was published in the online version of the journal Molecular Psychiatry. * * * * * I am not surprised. That means Pornography is good, otherwise we wouldn't have 6 billion people in the world. I'm more surprised that they hadn't found the connection between genes and sexuality before, I thought that was obvious. Or does rabbits have intercourse because the Rabbits Adam and Eve ate the forbidden carrot? What I find interesting is that they now know which gene that does it. Dark Helmet Posted May 30, 2006 Share Posted May 30, 2006 I hope those christians can think a bit for themselves... if sexual desire is controlled genetically then couldn't sexual orientation be genetically determined too? They always push that's it's a 'choice' or a 'lifestyle' but they can't bear to even think God could create such 'abomination' as the ancient testament so puts it. I can understand their problem though : if god purposefully creates being that have no option but hell then he is a monster. But faith comes to the rescue! Since god isn't a monster (the bible tells me so) then gays cannot be inherently homosexual, so then it must be a choice and we must force them to make the right one! To me christians! Raise the shields of hope and put on the helmet of victory! Let God cure them of their wickedness through our brainwashing and scaretactics! I gaurentee that the Christian Coalition or the Moral Majority will use this to justify a new drug that will "cure" homosexuals of their desires for others of their sex. Honestly, 100 different universities should be working on a drug right now that halts the temptations of child rapists or anyone who molests minors.
