If People Are Willing To Suffer Only For The Truth...

Recommended Posts

A belief does not become true nor is it validated just because you have martyrs. A martyr only means that the person who suffers do believe what he believes, and won't change his mind. So... all those tortured and martyred Christians in the past, does [sic] not make a True Christianity™.
Spot on, Ouro. It always pains me when fellow believers use this tack to try to "prove" Christianity. The Bible doesn't use that argument at all.

Here is a new video by Sean Faircloth about Humanists around the world, esp. in places like China, India, Russia, and Muslim countries, who are risking not only personal freedom but also their lives to speak from their consciences.

Ex-Bangladeshi atheist blogger Sharif Ahmed is currently seeking refugee status in Canada and attended our monthly brunch in March. Canada's Foreign Minister John Baird has said the Office of Religious Freedom is required only to defend people of religious minorities, and that atheists don't need protection. In this video, Sharif Ahmed is being interviewed by Centre for Inquiry, Canada about the torture and near-killing he experienced for being an atheist in Bangladesh and Malaysia. He says atheists are being killed by the hundred in Bangladesh and do need protection.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the "joy of the Lord" beams from this man's face. Since he has suffered so much--and continues in an extremely tenuous situation--for not having the joy of the Lord, I think he stands as witness to the fact that inner joy and peace is available to all who are true to themselves and their conscience.

I received another YouTube on the topic of atheist persecution and the Office of Religious Freedom. Our bookclub will be discussing this tomorrow night. In the meantime, I'm posting them here to show that indeed people are willing to suffer and die for their convictions that there is no god. And if it is true, as the Christians claim, that people will die only for the truth...

This one shows a map with eleven countries where atheists and agnostics are being actively persecuted and killed for their convictions, including Greece, which I had thought was a "western" country. It also shows high government officials of Canada making statements at media conferences.

The links at the beginning of this thread no longer work. Try this:

Jonathan Miller's Brief History of Disbelief

PART 2

I'm not sure why Part 3 of this series won't show as a video or live link. If you cut and paste it into your address bar you should be able to see it. I'm watching it on YouTube.
