Ro-bear
Today, I heard an obnoxiously cheerful song from the still-lamented disco era. Damn thing is still stuck in my head. Part of the lyrics assert: "...and we can ride the boogie." This is a use of "boogie" I'm not familiar with. I have a couple of questions for my esteemed fellows. 1. What precisely is a "boogie" in this context, and how does one ride it? 2. Why do I want to punch someone when the song gets to this part? Please, someone help me out here. Yours in apostasy, Rob

HA! Hey Rob, is it "Rock with you" by Michael Jackson? Here are the despised lyrics: "Girl, close your eyes Let that rhythm get into you Don't try to fight it There ain't nothin' that you can do Relax your mind Lay back and groove with mine You got to feel that heat And we can ride the boogie Share that beat of love I wanna rock with you (all night) Dance you into day (sunlight) I wanna rock with you (all night) We're gonna rock the night away Out on the floor There ain't nobody there but us Girl, when you dance There's a magic that must be love Just take it slow 'Cause we got so far to go When you feel that heat And we're gonna ride the boogie Share that beat of love I wanna rock with you (all night) Dance you into day (sunlight) I wanna rock with you (all night) We're gonna rock the night away And when the groove is dead and gone (yeah) You know that love survives So we can rock forever, on I wanna rock with you I wanna groove with you I wanna rock with you I wanna groove with you I wanna rock (all night) with you girl (sunlight) Rock with you, rock with you girl (yeah) (All night) Dance the night away I wanna rock with you (yeah) (all night) Rock you into day (sunlight) I wanna rock with you (all night) Rock the night away Feel the heat feel the beat Rock you into day (sunlight) I wanna rock - rock the night away" [Written & composed by Rod Temperton] I take it disco was not your favorite genre of pop music... Okay, question no. 1: seems to me that "ride the boogie" just means "dancing in the groove of the beat of love." Maybe I missed my calling as a disco lyricist! And question no. 2: maybe you want to punch someone when you hear this song because you dance like a white boy w/ no style. hahahaahahahaha

Ro-bear
Ahem! Curtdude, you seemed to enjoy that too much. I so appreciate your providing the lyrics for my personal Hell Soundtrack. Just throw in "Rhythm of the Night", and I'm set for eternity. Now I can despise the song in all its puerile glory. TAP, I'm surprised at you. You need to stick a Q-Tip in your ear and clean out your dirty mind. I know that nice Jackson boy would never sing about naughty stuff. Still, it makes me want to hit someone or something. I guess I'm just a non-dancing angry white MoFo.

Ro-bear
Remember Purple Haze, by Jimi Hendrix? "'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy" Thought he must have been European or something.
Merlinfmct87
Thankful: Use google. Search the artist, song, and the word 'lyrics' and you can find any song you need. It's a great help for the Moody Blues songs I listen too... or if I want to read along as I listen. Merlin

Merlinfmct87
But Merlin, it's much more fun to see what people "think" the words are. Lighten up sweetie. :-) Also, fun to see what people think the words mean. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are you suggesting that I should listen to how people MIS-hear songs?!?! HERESY! (which, incidentily, I misheard... oops...) I've lost alll credibility here. Carry on... . Merlin

It was awesome. I love Moody Blues. trashy
the closest I've ever come to figuring out the lyrics to that song is: "Keep on, till the porch light, don't stop till ya get enough." Doesn't make much sense so it's probably wrong. 'Ride the boogie' sounds like a euphemism for intercourse, the sexual kind. (thought I'd save TAP from having to embarass herself)
nightflight
A song that's going through my mind now is "I Go Crazy". I just got in touch with a girl from high school that I dated a short time, 20 years ago.

Curtdude
OR just wait for curtdude to hook you up! This string sort of took off while I was, you know, living out in the real world...with real radios and real music. So, Rob, did you get another song to add to your Soundtrack In Hell? My all time fave in that category must be "Afternoon Delight"...I can honestly say that it makes me want to send a bounty hunter after the morons who slicked that baby onto vinyl. Will anyone on this thread admit to buying the 45? C'mon, admit it. I can admit the guilty pleasures of "The Best of Bread" and "Barry Manilow"...
