Fweethawt
Raised Catholic, went to a couple of Baptist services, eyes started to really open when I went to a couple of those charismatic Evangelical services, then the last church I went to was Methodist. The pastor couldn't answer any real questions and I witnessed him turning down helping a homeless and desperate man because he (the pastor) just didn't "have the time right now". Checkmate
Non-denominational Charismatic and then Fundy Baptist. (Talk about your nasty one-two punch!) Of all the members here, I probably spent the least amount of time being brainwashed, but the damage was just as severe during this brief stint. quicksand
I was a Christian til about 7th or 8th grade. I couldn't accept the load that my pastor was pushing on me during confirmation (Luthern).I was baptised in the Serbian Othorodox tradition however. Interesting, my younger brother and I both had a similar experience and became unbelievers. I'm nearly 35 now.
LosingMyReligion
Well I've been in the Baptist church since I was a zygote... I deconverted approximately six months ago. I'm in my 20's...So that's a longtime to be guilt ridden.
KT45
Went to Baptist church, God saved in a "Word of Faith" church at age of 7, then Nondenominational (went to about 4 different churchs). Right now I'm 20 and I'm basically dazed and confused about what I am now. I reject the christian title (chruch created to many judgemental and unloving people to me). I don't do all that bible stuff (especially the stuff paul wrote) but still love Jesus and follow my idea of how he loved people. Most self proclaimed real christians say I'm still destined to hell. I just call myself a student at the moment.
Ex-COG
Was taken to a very fundamentalist Church of God as a child. Saved (through self-delusion) at 25, I attended the Church of God (Anderson, IN), which is a holiness church in the Wesleyan tradition. It was evangelical, or as I call it, "fundy lite." Walked away from it all when I was 39; I now attend a Unitarian church where everyone is free to search and believe/disbelieve as they wish. Didn't someone else ask this question not too long ago? Dark Helmet
Born into Evangelical-Baptist church (they're quieter than the south-US counterparts), 'gave my life to christ' and got baptised at 18. However I freed myself from the cult at 20 after 2 years of doubting and searching.

jasonwhatever
Brethen (very young) Baptist (for about 30 years) Blasphemed the Holy Spirit, 2005 and left church forever. Jon. Jon, even as serious as this is, I can't help but laugh, just because you say it so matter-of-factly. I also feel hope by seeing your posts that at least maybe I will get to live my physical life, since I never had a chance to, as God called me at 19 and expected me to be perfect from then on out. Did you kn ow that if you receive The Holy Spirit at 18 and then go and have homosexual sex you grieve The Holy Spirit greatly? If you say "oh my God," etc and add to that sin, then He will eventually depart from you and you will be accursed forever? But, if you live to be 95, were a porn star, thiev, robber, murderer, convict, alcoholic, child rapist and false prophet you can still have repentance and inherit eternal life? It's what The Word of God teaches. Why? Because supposedly those who weren't enlightened by The Holy Spirit don't fully know better, and also because they weren't saved they didn't "betray" The Lord by it. However, receiving The Holy Spirit doesn't make one have less of an urge to have sex, sin, etc. It just makes them more damned if they do. When I was strongest in The Lord, filled with His Spirit, I was watching just as much porn as without The Holy Spirit. So the urge is there either way. [/continuehijack] Now, if your soul meant as much to your (nonexistant) god as Xianity teaches, it stands to reason that the faithful would be given all the spiritual gifts they'd need to resist anything "sinful." No all-loving, all-powerful, all-knowing god could logically or morally permit anything less to happen - unless said god does not exist. Think about it. Reverend AtheiStar
Baptist here, then nondenominations, then United Methodist. All told, about 18 years of a 27 year old. Well, I was born an Atheist, free from all religious beliefs. Then my parents programmed me into their sect, Catholocism. By the age of 20 I had deconverted to "spiritual" Atheism (an Atheist with belief in souls, afterlives, etc.), but shortly thereafter to a fully materialist Atheist. I've been a nonbeliever for almost ten years now. I celebrate the anniversary on my birthday! It'll be ten years this September! Quite a milestone! Sodomized with a cross He spins and roasts It's just a holy bird Smells like a burnt turd! It's this they say, cannot be forgiven That's fine, I say What's life with religion? deepblue
I know what you mean Jason. Somehow it doesn't seem quite right - like you've got a raw deal. Varokhar - good point. But then maybe I was never one of the elect. Rather than being "born again" and overcoming, I was simply "resisting God" right to the breaking point. This is supposed to make me worse than people who sin in ignorance. Merely saying evil things about the Holy Spirit is a world away from actually blaspheming Him by breaking your conscience.
