In my massive ignorance on the subject I have been toying with the theory for some time that language is the only thing that separates us from other animals and that without language, even a human will not be self aware. This seems to fit within the hypothesis. It's a very interesting subject and I think that somewhere here is the clue that leads to the answer of who we humans really are. An imperfect metaphor would be that humans are like a computer. If no language is loaded, the computer can't function at the capacity that it is capable of functioning. Not really. There was a study that just came out that said dolphins have names.
