SilentLoner
Every year, Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX) switches to red cups for the holiday season. They typically have designs on them, images of Christmas trees and holiday bulbs. This year, though, they're just red. Christian groups have said Starbucks is being a Scrooge and that this shift away from Christian messages is " a denial of historical reality." “In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs,” said Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of Design & Content, in a statement. “This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.” The move has prompted some people to say they'll boycott the coffee shops in protest. Never has a plain red cup been so controversial. http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/blog/2015/11/starbucks-angers-christian-groups-by-removing.html
Moderator Margee Posted November 7, 2015 Moderator Share Posted November 7, 2015 OMG, S.L, I have seen this so much on Facebook in the last two weeks, I want to throw up. I don't let any of my friends or family know that I am a non-believer but I am getting ready to tell them all that this topic of 'Merry Christmas' is completely tiring and BORING!!! So many others celebrate December for other reasons!! I'm planning on getting the list ready why others celebrate and I am going to post it! Good for Starbucks!! Daffodil
"This also denies the hope of Jesus Christ and His story told so powerfully at this time of year." Exactly how do red cups with ornaments on them tell Jesus' story?
Lilith666
Oh, Christ on a pike. Of course they do. I don't see why Starbucks can't do some research on various winter holiday traditions and creatively include their symbols as well, instead of just getting rid of all of it. Looking at the current red cup versus past cups decorated with snowflakes and ribbons, the new design - for lack of a better word - is boring. Furthermore, Christians don't have a monopoly on snow and happy feelings. "Joy" and "hope" aren't all about Christians, no matter what they may think. Winter celebrations can be a joyful time for all of us; Starbucks needs to relax.
Daffodil
Actually, the color for hanukah(sp?) is blue, so if they really want to honor all beliefs, they need a blue cup, too.

Guest Furball
It's that time of the year again atheists. What time is that you say? Oh well, it's when all the insane asylums churches, throw open their doors so the nut balls can publicly talk about how jesus died for your horrible sins of going to work everyday, paying your taxes, telling your family and friends how much you love them, helping out others in need etc. etc. etc. Yeah that's right, jesus died so you wouldn't have to go to hell for your sins of being more moral, loving, and compassionate than him and his god. I go there all the time and I never look at the cup more than I need to in order to drink from it. Then I throw it away. This is much ado about nothing but I assume Starbucks is thanking the Xian haters for the free viral advertising.
Castiel233
Starbucks could have pictures of Jesus on every cup Every single TV show could be about Jesus Every single American law could be based on the Bible And Christians in the states would still find something to whine about

Creatureofthedarkness
It's part of Starbucks marketing strategy. They are trying to shift there entire brand to be recognized just by the signature circle on the cup. It used to enclose their mermaid + "Starbucks coffee company" and now is just the the mermaid, the whole ~simplification thing has been increasing each year! It's not just Christmas, but Christmas is a great time to do it bc they are flooding the market with merchandise at that time! They want their circle to mean Starbucks. Also, Christians on Facebook are insufferable.

Mythra
OOh. I'm thinking the rainbow cup might not go over so good either. They just should go back to their original logo so no one will be offended. Nah, probably not. If the absence of snowflakes on the cups gets em worked up, I'm pretty sure mermaid boobs would put em into a frenzy as well.
Castiel233
Hard-line American Christians will never be happy until they concrete Jesus over everything. Every show MUST be Jesus. I can see The Simpsons now. Homer goes to church , handles snakes and confess to Jesus......every single episode......."Friends" ...the one where everyone finds Jesus. In this weeks Sponge bob square pants, the Krusty Krab is knocked down to make way for a Mega Church, while Patrick and Sandy disrupt a gay wedding. The bench mark to be POTUS will be if you can drink poison and live, and The White House will have a 100 foot glowing Jesus on the front lawn..... Basically they will not rest until the USA is filled will dead eyed, slacked jawed , Christ bots For crying out loud........
