Isis Elimination

When I see headlines like this, I think there's more to the story than is being told to the public.  It's the favorite tactic used on the American people; jeopardy.  Tell them if we don't act now, something terrible is going to happen.

If they are using fear tactics, you can bet your bottom dollar someone or some group is going to benefit and the American people (not to mention their targets) are going to pay a heavy price.  It's happened again, and again, and again.  Financial crisis, 911, Iraq I, II, and III, and on and on and on.

Kerry: Iran Could Lead Fight Against ISIS If US 'Fails Miserably'

Keep in mind none of us know shit what's really going on over there.  Not only are we looking at it through the lens of a non objective media, but we don't have a clue about the cultural variables or understand anything about the realities that are very, very different from our own realities.

If you're convinced that ISIS is evil, just imagine what people on the ground there think of US Marines and how those in power over there spin our involvement.  From their perspective, we are easily just as evil.

If you aren't from the ME and you think you know what's going on there, you are kidding yourself; I don't care how smart you are or how educated you are, you're a fool if you have the hubris to think you have enough info to have a reasonable opinion.

Thomas Friedman had an article that made a lot of sense to me:  the USA avoid riding in there so that Saudi Arabia, Turkey and others have to step up to the plate.  F argued that if we take the lead, as usual, the regional powers will sit on the sidelines, as usual.  He also said that Saudi Arabia is the biggest part of the problem, because they rest on a "bargain" between the house of Ibn Saud, who get to rule, and the Wahabi religious leadership, who get to spread fanatical Islam all over the world using oil money funding.  The royal house stands to lose the most because ISIS directly challenges their claim to lead Islam (since they possess Mecca).  He also urged trying to see that ISIS' plentiful sources of funding get disrupted.

No offense F, but Friedman has pretty much been the WH talking point guy for years now.  It was largely his influence that pushed us into Bush II's Iraq as he sold Weapons of Mass Destruction and other fear-mongering points.  He's right up there with Fareed Zakaria when it comes to selling us either the Israeli or State Department spin on foreign policy.

Salon has a pretty good slew of articles outlining Mr. Freidman's spin.  They are not the only ones, but it's a good start.

Friedman’s vision is worth studying, if only because it reflects the distorted perspective of some very wealthy and influential people. In their world the problems of the many are as easily fixed as a line of code, with no sacrifice required of them or their fellow billionaires.

Yes, I hardly ever pay any attention to what Friedman writes.  This particular column seemed to make sense and it doesn't give the White House spin.  F is skeptical of Obama's approach so far.

This is the link (I'm not promoting Friedman in general, and on this topic, too, what the hell do I know?):

Seriously… can someone explain to me the point of beheading (random) people in other countries? Do they really think it will stop any action against them? Wouldn't it just piss people off more? What is the purpose of it, what kind of reaction do they think they will recieve?

I don't get it. If they did that here I'd be more likely to support Canadian troops being sent to eradicate them, not less.

Maybe it's just me.

Yeah, this is pretty crazy. Funnily enough I linked to it just before you. The guy they nabbed first lived right near where I grew up. Most of the Muslim community lives around that region though, so not too surprised. Also, related to this someone with an ISIS flag went up to a nearby church (it's a maronite church so it's mostly lebanese who attend; the same ethnicity these suspects most likely are) and threatened to kill them all. Pretty crazy.

and the Aussies are supposed to what? Allow terror to happen to their citizens?

I'm done with the muslims… they are insane, and use our political correctness and liberalism against us… seriously - they can all go back to their hell holes.

They wouldn't HAVE the freedom to protest there now, would they?

When I protested the Kosovo war, we organized several thousand anti war protesters and marched to the Pentagon from the Mall.  About 50 or 60 Serbian skinheads showed up joining us in our call to stop bombing Serbia.  The press was there and media plastered 'Serbian Skinheads Protest Croat Liberation Effort' across the papers and airwaves, completely ignoring the fact that we neither supported the skinheads or that the skinheads made up only a tiny percentage of our group.

Take everything you read and see in the media with a grain of salt.  Especially when it comes to war efforts.
