Guest Ask21771
i don't want to be Christian and the only reason I even bothered to research it was out of fear of going to hell, but the thing is lately I've started to feel like part of me is attracted to it, I know the Christians say that Jesus "calls" to you and tries to change your desires but frankly I'm not convinced, I still have problems with the Christian religion. It I'm worried that I am being called and if I ignore it (if I have the ability to do so) I'll go to hell
Lucy
I think you probably know the answer you will get on a site called ex-christian.net. So what makes you ask this here as opposed to a Christian website? What is making you feel pulled to it? Did something happen to make you start feeling this way? It I'm worried that I am being called and if I ignore it (if I have the ability to do so) I'll go to hell Why would Jesus be so vague about whether or not he is communicating with you? What kind of 'awesome god' can't even get a message through? :-) What kind of god leaves you unsure about whether or not he exists? The only reality about Jesus is that he is the hot air produced by the mouths of Christians spreading their fairy tales. Other than that he has no independent existence. The 'call' you describe is the first link in a long chain of guilt and fear that will be used to shackle your mind. You'll find that Christians actually do the talking for this Jesus because Jesus himself never shows up. And Christians think that a never-present, always-silent god that doesn't really do anything at all is completely acceptable. Continue to think and question everything, most especially religion. If something seems absurd, it probably is.

Guest Furball
I thought i was called too. 13 years of a christian calling led me ultimately to this website. There is no god, there is no jesus, and there is no hell. Think about it....if god existed, why would he send you to hell for being exactly what he created you to be....human. It's a death cult based on human observations and opinions, written down by humans and passed off as "god says". It's all make believe. -peace
yunea
I've thought I had many "calls", some of which I answered with great enthusiasm and really sincerely tried to fulfill them. None of them made sense in the long run. Not one. I've also done the believing "just in case" thing. Just in case it's all true. But, after all the years, I really rather don't build my identity over a big fear of something happening to "me" when I'm not even here any longer. And the nonsensical "calls" would have cost me everything if I'd followed all of them blindly.

I wasted most of my life because I kept imagining Jesus was sending me telepathic messages and I needed to listen for further instructions. There is no Jesus and there is no afterlife. Enjoy the live you have now.
Ranger26
I feel the same thing dude. I was a hard core christian before, then a hard core ex-Christian, but slipped back. Can't find my way out, and feel like i can't be sure about being a Christiian or ExChristian anymore. I want to see what people say here. I don't like a lot of things about the Bible and Christianity and with 100% certainty say that not all of it is true, and Yahwey can't be a real god so stay the course man. Ranger, have you tried evaluating the evidence for yourself? What about your own personal experiences with jesus and xtianity, what have you discovered through that? Just curious is all. I love your profile pic by the way, classic. -me(ow)
Super Moderator TheRedneckProfessor Posted January 20, 2015 Super Moderator Share Posted January 20, 2015 I, too, felt "the call" and it felt real. But every time I tried to answer "the call", I ended up getting my teeth kicked in. That, eventually, became a clue that "the call" is bullshit. Hang out. You're among friends. Decide for yourself.
Ranger26
man, i have been back and forth so many times. Basically I am leaning towards there being some afterlife, but definitely not having Christianity as a single way of life. I have had certain experiences that are hard to explain away, but at the same time, when reading the Bible and thinking logically I have no desire for Christianity to be real. It's basically mind over emotions now. So i am just staying in the mid-way. Not a Christian and not atheist, trying to live a moral life just by following my heart and doing what seems right in my heart. In terms of looking for evidence, i guess we can proove anything we want. We can find evidence to support any claim and point of you. I am kind of tired of examining the evidence now and just thinking about getting through the day feeling happy and good for myself. You know what i mean?Lol thanks about my avatar. Yeah, classic moment
Guest Furball
Thanks for the response. For me, i found no evidence at all to back christianity's claims, so that helped me alot. -peace

Lucy
When you were a Christian how real did the "presence of the lord" feel I can say there was a time it was so real there I would have said there was no possibility I could ever not believe. I had true faith without doubt. So yes, I heard 'the call' and later realized it was crap. It's unusual to change your mind if you become a strong believer. Too many cognitive biases start taking over the more sure you are.

Even when it feels like it isn't? All emotions are caused by a variety of chemicals whizzing about your brain, triggering a physical response throughout your entire body. For instance, anger causes a very specific feeling, but also causes the extremities to tremble and adrenaline to begin rushing through the body. The feeling of having "the Call" is similar: Just a bunch of endorphins being released because of the state of euphoria often raised from spiritual activity. I see it like this: You can't control what you feel, but you can control how you handle it.

It can be a strong emotion sometimes. If you truly want to lose your fear of hell and be free, the only way is to educate yourself on exactly where the concept of hell came from. Start here.
